Any college/pro football widows?

Tomorrow is DH's team's first game, and I am totally dreading it. DH turns into a total psycho when he watches his games. He screams and curses at the tv - it sounds like he's about to pummel someone. Then after the game is over, he has to go chat on his message boards for hours about the game, then he'll read about it in the paper the next day, then he'll watch the game again (he Tivo's the games, because apparently watching once isn't good enough? Chat Icon )

He is BEYOND obsessed, but he's from the south, and college football is their life down there. Thank goodness the season is short!

Anybody else a football widow?

my DH loves the Giants and we just moved to NC and they don't always show the games...last night it was on, but then the Panthers came on, so they broadcasted that instead...he was SOOOOO ****** b/c the Giants did really well last night!....so now he is going to spend over 200 dollars on the NFL package for Direct TV so he can watch all the games...ugh men!

I spend $135 on the MLB package Chat Icon

I can't stand football though. DH will be watching a game and he'll always try to get me to watch these "great plays". You'd think he'd know by now that watching a guy get tackled is not that exciting to me Chat Icon

Re: Any college/pro football widows?

I am.

Right now, DH is on a flight to his Fantasy Football draft with a dozen of his friends. Upon his return, I can pretty much count on his playing football for his league every Saturday from September through January. On Sundays and Mondays, whichever pro game happens to be on TV, he will watch as it has a direct effect on his "Fantasy League". Both of us went to a Big East School so he is pretty seriously into college games as well. I don't understand the appeal as every game looks just like the one the week before. Football is very consuming.

Personally, I hate the game. I am not interested nor will I ever be. I do not think I should have to fake interest in his hobby if I have a strong dislike for it and I am really tired of people telling me that I should. It is ok for a couple to dislike each others hobbies. I mean, I don't ask him to start needlepointing (yes I DO needlepoint) so we can develop a stronger bond. I have my interests. HE has his. WE have ours.

HOWEVER, I do NOT keep him from enjoying his passion. HE watches what he wants WHEN he wants. I do not tell him he cant play football. The fact is, I know where he is and if I need him, I can reach him. Actually, I did ask him to stop playing the month before our wedding as last September he incurred a concussion. I told him to go support his team because that's just what being part of a team is all about. He did it happily and did not suit up. Later this year, I met the man who caused the concussion. It was rather funny - he felt bad. I got over it.

One good thing about football: pigs in a blanket on Superbowl Sunday.

Too bad last night didn't count and most of the starting players on both teams didn't play. I'd love to see the Giants beat the great teams during the regular season.

I LOVE professional football though DH and I root for different teams (me-Giants and DH-Jets). I'm not into college football at all though and would much rather watch something else.

Are we married to the same person?? Chat Icon DH is the most calm, even tempered person at any other time. Last year, during a particularly stressful game, he almost broke his hand b/c he punched the floor....It was puffy for weeks!

I don't think DH has punched anything yet (luckily!), but he'll spew out streams of obsceneties at the tv, like the coaches and players can hear him or something Chat Icon

I don't see the appeal in football at all. When I met DH, I had never heard of anyone being such a big fan of college football. So I said something like, "why would anyone bother watching college football?". Somehow he still married me Chat Icon

I bleed Scarlet and Gray!!! Shall I sing my Alma Mater Song???

Carmen Ohio

Oh come let's sing Ohio's praise
And songs to Alma Mater raise
While our hearts rebounding thrill
With joy which death alone can still
Summer's heat or winter's cold
The seasons pass the years will roll
Time and change will surely (truly) show
How firm thy friendship ... OHIO!

These jolly days of priceless worth
By far the gladdest days on earth
Soon will pass and we not know
How dearly we love Ohio
We should strive to keep thy name
Of fair repute and spotless fame
So in college halls well grow
And love thee better ... OHIO!

Though age may dim our mem'ry's store
We'll think of happy days of yore
True to friend and frank to foe
As sturdy sons of Ohio
If on seas of care we roll
Neath blackened sky or barren shoal
Thoughts of thee bid darkness go
Dear Alma Mater...OHIO!

I copied and pasted..no way I was going to write it out and sing at work! Chat Icon

"Our honor defend! We will fight to the end for OHIO!"

oh yeahhhh my dh does not get it at all!

DH was in the marching band in school and can play the alma mater and fight song. In fact, the last few moments of our wedding was he and his friends singing the alma mater. I didnt know the words. I hummed.

I know they played really well last night...DH can't wait for the first regular season game...both mannings playing against each other...should be a great game! I never used to be into football, but DH really took the time to explain the game to me and now i enjoy watching it with him! When he is with his family (ALL HUGE Giants fans) now that is dangerous!

Ugh, I will be humming his team's song in my sleep pretty soon.
Did I mention we named the dog after his team? (Bama)
And I was shocked when DH didn't insist on naming our son after the quarterback! Chat Icon
For wedding gifts, people from his side of the family sent us elephant things, because that's the mascot Chat Icon

My dh is a college football widow!!

So is mine, my fellow Big Ten alum.

I'm a Penn Stater though. Chat Icon

Our fight song:

Fight on State, Fight on State,
Strike your gait and win,
Victory we predict for thee,
We're ever true to you, dear old White and Blue.
Onward State, Onward State
Roar Lions roar,
We'll hit that line, roll up the score,
Fight on to victory evermore,
Fight on, on
On, on, on!
Fight on, on,
Penn State!

Quick funny story......DH and I used to work with a huge Penn state fan, and his son, who's around 3 years old, knows all the college team mascots. So one day DH was quizzing him, and said, "What's Ohio's mascot?" and the little boy says "A poisonous nut!". And I'm like Chat Icon and DH says, "A buckeye is a poisonous nut!"

OK - I just sent this to my DH asking if it sounded familiar, and he sent this back to me!!!!

Yup - pro-football. He played flag football last year every weekend, which was frustrating for wedding planning and now that he has a hernia he's skipping this season. but he's gearing up for the fantasy draft soon and is already watching preseason. He's totally pysched for the Giant's opener and can't wait to use the football snack holders and mugs he bought last year -
