Going To a Nursing Home...

I plan on asking my doctor this, but wanted your advice/views. DH's grandmother is in a nursing home. Would you go to visit her when you are pregnant? They line up all the patients out in the hallway so the nurses can keep an eye out on them, so i would need to walk by everyone to see Grandma. I really want to see her, but what do you all think?

I don't think it's a problem, personally. I would go, but that's just me.

I would go and see your DH's grandmother. I go see my grandfather all the time. Just wash your hands, and use hand sanitizer if you are worried about catching a cold or something.

I see my mom in a nursing home. Bring purell with you or antibacterial wipes for your hands. I also bring these toilet seat covers (the paper ones) with me.
I know I am ridiculous but, I am a germaphobe and I feel better bringing this stuff with me.

I would go.

I have spent most of the last 2 months with my mother in the hospital. I just found their cleanest bathrooms, and constantly washed my hands and used sanitizer.

I work in a nursing home and I haven't had any problems, neither have any of the pregnant nurses or CNAs.

If there's something going around, you'll know b/c the residents won't be lined up like you would normally see them.

ETA: as the other girls mentioned...it's important to have a hand sanitizer. That's the best way to prevent any kind of infection.

There should be nothing wrong with it. It's perfectly safe.

Re: Going To a Nursing Home...

DH and I have gone to the Hospital and to the rehab place (when she was there) 2 to 3 times a week since DH's grandma broke her hip about a month ago. The only week I stayed away was when I had a really bad cold so I didn't make her sicker. I think her immunity is worse than mine! Chat Icon
