Have you ever taken a computer course? Online or in person?

I have to take a computer course at work b.c my boss is not satisified with my knowledge of MS Word.

Does anyone know how I can go about this? Do you think an online course would teach me enough or is this something I need to do in person?

TIA!

Re: Have you ever taken a computer course? Online or in person?

I took a computer class (kind of) in college, but I've taken many classes online in general.

For Word, I think even a book like "Word for Dummies" (not that you are!) would be enough to learn the tips and tricks. I don't think an in person class would be necessary.

I agree with the above poster. Or even the local adult-ed classes have MS office classes.

Also...I know New Horizons (I think that's the name), they are located by Bryant Park in the Grace building has these types of classes.

I think people get more out of physical classes as opposed to e-learning. What is it in Word that you're trying to learn more about? It's a relatively simple program. Mailmerges? Templates?

exactly. Just when I think I am pretty good at it, the whole document does something wacky and I have no clue how to fix it. I find I can only do the standard typing stuff on it.

Here ya go!

My secretary has all the Dummy books--Word, Excel, etc., and they are really helpful if you forget how to mail merge or something like that.

I have - not for a college degree, but for certifications I have. Much better than falling asleep in a lab.

Re: Have you ever taken a computer course? Online or in person?

Thanks so much for everyone's suggestions!

I spoke to Horizon and they emailed me, your right, it is $$$!

Hi Beth,
Below is the info we discussed. The contents of the office productivity club which is $1099. All of those classes as often as you need to and you have 6 months free retake privileges as well. You also get web based training for each class that you take and that is back up support for the instructor led classes. Each of those is for 6 months after you have attended each class. I also included our current schedule which goes through Dec 2005. Our new Jan-June 2006 schedule should be available next week. The outlines show you what is covered in each of the levels of the courses. Again, you can take any version so if the xp does not fit into your timeframe take the 2000 or 2003. There is very little difference in the versions. Bill Gates pretty much makes money by upgrading and adding a few bells and whistles. If you have any questions I am not in tomorrow but Ray (my boss) is. Feel free to give him a call. Have him paged though or else you will go to his voice mail. He can be reached at 631-499-7929-hit 0 for the operator and ask them to page Ray. I hope I haven't left anything out but if I have do not hesitate to contact us.
