Basal Thermometer (ETA-Another Question)

I know you are suppose to take your temperature first thing when you wake up. I know you are not suppose to answer the phone, go to the bathroom, etc. etc. So does laying in bed 1/2 asleep and tossing and turning change your temperature. In other words, your up but you are too lazy to get out of bed.

Also, I am having a hard time waking up at the same time. Yes, I know I should set my alarm clock. So can you be within 30 minutes from when you usually take your temperature? And Do you have your thermometer on your night table?

Thanks Girlies! I just want to be as accurate as I can.

ETA: Also, do you find charting to be helpful? do your temps coincide with your opks (for those who do both)?

Re: Basal Thermometer

I have a hard time remembering. I try to do it the second my alarm goes off the first time( when I hit snooze the 1st time Chat Icon Chat Icon ) I have to get out of bed to do this, but I grab the thermometer, as Im out of bed for all of 1 second to hit snooze and take the temp.

my problem is my thermometer takes TOOOO long to get the final reading, and I so wanna go back to bed that I hate laying there waiting.

I wish I knew of a faster one!

Re: Basal Thermometer

Well I hit snooze 1x before I take my temp and I am moving around. Pretty much this happens every day. I mean its kinda hard to not move a muscle before you take your temp and you do toss and turn all night anyway, right?

I keep mine in the nigh table drawer and use it every morning. I set my alarm on wk ends and take it around 6:30am...write it down on paper, stuff it back in to my night table and go back to sleep. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh as for how long it takes to get a final BBT reading - the BBT waits THREE minutes - so it does feel like forever (I agree Donna), but its only 3.

Thanks Ladies!!! I am starting to take my temperatures even though I haven't started AF.

So from your responses, you both take your temperatures at the same time everyday.

I thought my thermometer was broken because it took so long.

Re: Basal Thermometer

I have a thermometer that remembers...so the first time the alarm goes off I hit snooze and take my temp...once the buzzer goes off, I hit the button and toss the thermometer onto the night stand (I am half asleep by this time)
When I really wake up I go and look for it and push it back on to see the last temp...I then go and record it.

I take my temp as soon as my alarm goes off at 5 amChat Icon FH was leaving for a business trip this morning and I had to push his groping hands awayso I could get an accurate reading.

Yes, I keep my thermometer on the nightstand with a small pad and paper, then I transfer it later onto the chart.

Re: Basal Thermometer

Like Deb, I have one that saves the temp. this way I can go back later and check it.
BTW...I have fallen back asleep while taking my temp and the thermometer falling out of my mouth woke me up... and this didn't happen just onceChat Icon

a lot of the times they do coincide which makes me feel like I could do one OR the other...but I like the re-assurance of having two methods point to the same day.

Re: Basal Thermometer (ETA-Another Question)

OPK's never worked for me...maybe cuz I was on Clomid, so the charting with temps was it for me...or the CM, but that is sometimes hard to judge. I think I got one month where CM and temps agreed.
