We're having trouble picking colors for two rooms. We have an open floor plan, so you can see the living/diining rooms from the Kitchen/main hallway and vice versa. I wanted to do Yellowish/gold in the living room dining room with brown and red accents. Kitchen is black and white, so I'm having trouble picking another color to use in there that would compliment the yellow/gold, but not look ridiculous with the black and white. Greens and blues are out because we already used that too many times. No purples or beiges. I wanted red, but DH doesn't like that. We were thinking pumpkin, but I'm wondering if that will be too halloweenish with the black and white. Anyone have a picture of something like this?
My big fear is picking the color, hating it and having to redo it--wasting the time and money and not being able to use the kitchen. Does this happen a lot?

The house we just sold had a living room, diningroom (small) and kitchen (one small wall, mostly cabinets) all in pumpkin. I went two shades lighter on the color swatch and used that color to paint the livingroom wall that leads into the hallway and the rest of the hallway. With bright white mouldings and doors.
The majority of the people who looked at our house commented on how much they loved the color... it was deep without being flashy and still fairly neutral for any decor. Our buyer loves it and we are saving the touch up paint for them. Unfortunately, I don't have pics on my work computer.
The color was Benjamin moore and I think it was "Spiced Pumkin".

I got quarts of the color I wanted before I painted the whole room. I would do a patch of the color on different walls to see how it would look in the day at night, etc. before I committed to it. I put a few colors that I liked up at once at left it up for about a week before deciding.

I like pumpkin, especially for a kitchen. I have seen it in many areas and it looked great. You can also try a shade of cinnamon or terra cotta.
As for your question, the answer is YES. We had our bathroom painted and I hated it after the first coat. It was beige, but it had such pink undertones. The next morning I was at the store (which Lowe's gave me for free with returning the first can) and picked another beige. I am so glad I changed it.

Have you checked out the Historical Colors of Benjamin Moore? They have palets of colors that work together with one another. I believe they give you six options of coordinating colors. Hope this helps.

I would love to be able to just put a sample on the wall, but unfortunately, I don't have the time. So, I went and spent 2hrs at the store today trying to make a final decision. I picked a lighter yellow for the living/dining room and a gold with a hint of pumpkin for the kitchen/hallway. I'm sooooo nervous. I was having trouble imagining any of the colors. I'll let you know if I'm going to be redoing it or if it works for us. Thanks!
This is the picture I loved that I'm trying to recreate, but I think I might have gone too light on the yellow. We'll see tonight.
