birth defects
I am so upset for a very close friend. They found out from an amnio that the baby has down syndrome. DOes anyone know of anyone this happened to? Shes devestated. Shes in her 4th month going on 5th and is 35. Is everything going to be okay from here being that most of the baby is developed. I am really concerned and feel awful...

Re: birth defects
Sometimes an amnio can have false positives. Miracles can happen. and for your friend.

Re: birth defects
DH's aunt was told by amnio that her son had downs also.. but was born completely healthy. The test is never 100%. I hope this is the case for your friend.

Unfortunately, women in their 30s and 40s have a pretty high risk of have a child with downs.

Re: birth defects
A friend of a friend of mine recently had a baby with downs. Depending on the severity of it, many children with Downs can go on to live a full life. Childrens with Downs also tend to be very happy, loving people.
