Has anyone ever sold anything on Craigs List?

I'm selling my wedding gown on Craigs List and I got a hit from a person in Oklahoma. How does it work? Do I tell her once I receive the money order I will ship? I'm not sending a $2000 gown without payment first. Should I set up a pay pal account? Please help!!

TIA

DH sold tickets to a concert on there and used PayPal. Good luck!

I have bought and sold on craigslist. Once I bought something from out of state. I sent payment via paypal and the person shipped out my item. No problems.

I have had nothing but good experiences so far with craigslist.

Do not sell to anyone out of state. Craig's list has warnings about this all the time. These money orders and cashiers checks may look real but they are not.

That's why Craig's list has the local listing.

I have sold quite a few things already and always dealt with local people. I sold furniture and personally I would only deal locally.

I would be wary of accepting money orders - Craig's has a fraud alert for money orders. I would go through PayPal.

I've only given away free stuff on Craigslist. My parents sold a ton of stuff from my grandmohter's house, car, etc but rec'd cash only -but nothing be the best experiences.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Good thing you said Paypal and didn't take a check or money order from her!

My sister swears by craigslist and I know its free and easier but I feel you get more money on Ebay - lots more people see it and more people know about ebay. Have you tried ebay yet?

I do all the time and there is someone coming by tomorrow to purchase the latest item we had posted on Sunday --$120 in my pocket!

Re: Has anyone ever sold anything on Craigs List?

Glad you caught that. I am selling furniture and I always say in the ad cash on pick up. I still get some people who try the money order thing.

I don't get it, what's the point? They want to get my old stuff and sell it to someone else?

Re: Has anyone ever sold anything on Craigs List?

I do both ebay and Craigslist. I also do freecycle.org and buysellgiveitaway. I like them both.

Although with Craigslist you have to be careful.

On craigslist I had one guy who wanted to send me a check for $5000.00 for something I was selling for $200.00. He wanted me to deposit the check and send him the remainder of cash minus my fee. The thing that set my alarms off at first (because this was before it was on the news and before my fathers job got word of it) was that he was in another country and didn't even want to see a picture of what I was selling. So I just blocked his mail.
A month later is was on the news that some lady actually went through the whole process and the check bounced and she was in the hole for it. It was a lot more than the $5000. I had been offered.

I didn't sell but I tried to give away the gravel in my backyard from the previous owner. I had a lot of crazy nasty people respond to me and one person showed up to look at it and made 2 dates to pick it up but never showed. BTW, anyone want some free gravel?

I'm really afraid of what weirdos will show at my house. I'd rather just ebay the small stuff and give away the rest.

Re: Has anyone ever sold anything on Craigs List?

I am curently selling some stuff and one woman emailed and called that she wanted it, made an appointment, ran late, said she would call back and never did. I'm going to re-list the items. I had a lot of people interested in this stuff too..some weirdos but I always make sure DH is home when I set up appointments.
