work vent-updated with something amusing in first post
This may seem a bit silly but I'm really heated over it right now...I work in a very small office (7 women and 1 bossman) and I am the youngest in the office (the next youngest is 13 yrs older than me). Most of these women in my office are going through menopause and are constantly having hot flashes so they are always adjusting the temperature and air conditioners and it is so so cold!! The woman is is 13 yrs older than me is always freezing and so are two other women-it is usually just two/three women who are always hot etc. My biggest beef is they are always wearing tons of layers!!! They tell me I should wear a sweater etc and even when I do (althougth I feel like I shouldn't have to) I am still so cold that my nose runs. We got into a bit of heated debate today about it since we got a new a/c unit (we have a total of 5 in the office) and they set it to 60 degrees and it was ridiculously cold.....I have been getting sick a lot lately and my Dr. told me it could be related to me always being cold (i asked b/c I felt like that might be part of the reason) They dont really care though and I'm not sure what to do--just freeze to death?? I am above all these women (position wise) I just don't think I want to go there with it since it is just a temperature issue. I know where my DH works (which is part of my job but he is in the main facility which houses a lot more people) that they have central heating/cooling and keep it at 72 degrees...sorry for the long post I just needed to get this off my (frozen) chest!!
I know I am not alone-the girl that is working with us for the summer just left me this comment on my myspace page..
trace, don't forget ur snow suit and boats for work tomorrow or you will freeze!

Re: work vent
can you get a space heater? or a heating fan? otherwsie it sounds like you are out numbered there..
the men keep it at 60 here as well...im wearing long sleeves to day ( a thin sweater) and all day i get asked "why are you wearing a sweater?" (and they look at me like i have 6 heads) and i say "because its effing cold in here!!!!!!!!"

Re: work vent
Ah- the age old problem of office temperature! As I type this I am sitting in my office with a space heater on full blast as the women around me complain how hot it is in here! I personally think I would complain if I were you- 60 degrees is just plain ridiculous! They need to compromise a bit. Think of it this way- if your house or office got to 60 degrees in the winter you would turn the heat on right? So why should they turn the AC down to 60 degrees in the summer when we are wearing much lighter clothing? UNREAL!

Re: work vent
Those that are cold in offices usually are lower in number than those that are hot.....my solution: I keep a sweater and a pashmina at my desk w/the heater under my desk.

Re: work vent
I bought mine in the summer as well- and I got it online. Just do a search for space heaters and you'll find them. And the way the stores rush the seasons, I am sure you can probably buy one in Targert already!

I've been through the hot flashes episodes and know how uncomfortable they can be. However, I would never inconvenience another group of people because of it. Instead of everyone else being uncomfortably cold, why can't these few women keep small portable fans on or under their desks? That way others can have the air conditioning at a comfortable level and they can keep as cool as they wish.
