NEVER! She didn't sleep long stretches at night for a while but as she slept more so did I. I never woke her up.

The 2nd day my son was home he slept 8 hrsChat Icon Chat Icon I always thought "don't wake a sleeping baby" so I let him sleep. But when I told the ped he told me not to let him sleep more than 4 hrs for formula and not more than 2 hrs for breast milk. His reasoning was if you let him sleep 8 hrs, he's missing out on a feeding and therefore a chance to get calories.
I BF all day and give him formula at night. So what I do I don't wake him up at night. He sleeps 5hrs straight. During the day, I'll let him go 3hrs max in b/w breast feedings. He usually wakes up before 3hrs though.

I wouldn't unless I was awake. I would let him go 4 hours.

8 hours may be a long time like someone else said above, but three hours..no way! Enjoy it...take a bath...sit in silence! Chat Icon

If I can remember that far back LOL - my son is 3 1/2 I gave him a bottle at 11:30 PM - I woke him for that and then thats it - he woke himself around 4AM but I bnever woke him in the middle of night. Daytime was

7AM
11AM
3PM
7PM
11PM

Times changed to suite my schedule when he started eating cereal - he would get a bottle with cereal and then again at about 9 then thats its until he woke

No... Never. I agree with the statement that she will let you know if she is hungry.

NO-------- Never wake her when shes sleeping... My son slept through the night VERY quick.. he was a few days old, and I am grateful that he did.. You need you rest to re-coop! Take advantage of the extra hours she gives you!!!

Go Back to Bed-- She will wake you when shes hungry-- Dont worry! Chat Icon Chat Icon

If you are breastfeeding then you should be waking them in the beginning because you are supposed to fit in 10-12 feedings in a day to establish your milk supply. It is very important in the begininng. I don't know about formula fed babies though.

Re: Did you wake your newborn in the middle of the night to eat?

Ive done it. Not all the time but if youre up and you know that theyre bound to wake again to feed, why get up 2x? Ugh! I am not looking forward to those middle of the night feedings again.
