Is 12 hours of sleep a night too much?
Christopher has been sleeping 10 hours every night and last night he slept a whole 12 hours without waking up. Naturally, I ran into his room in a panic this morning, waking him up in the process, but he may have slept for even longer if I hadn't woken him. Is there such a thing as babies getting too much sleep? He doesn't sleep much during the day (only random 15-20 minute catnaps, but most days he'll go without napping at all.), even if I try to lay him down for a nap. He's 11 weeks old.

I never woke Gianna up and she started sleeping through the night (10-14 hrs) at 7 weeks...I was just very grateful

I don't think 12 hours is too much. They should sleep between 10 - 12 hours a night plus naps during the day. JMO - but I don't believe in waking a sleeping baby. He is doing what is right for him.

Nope not too much at all. Babies need 12 - 15 hrs of sleep a DAY!! He's getting exactly what he needs.
Jake sleeps 10 hrs at night and naps a total of about 3 - 4 hrs throughout the day.

Nope, that's wonderful. Andrew started sleeping 12 hour night around 4 months old. He also naps 3-4 hours a day too.
Enjoy it!

The Twins didn't sleep through the night until they were over 3 months old, so I would enjoy the sleep if I were you.

Wow -- a lot of you guys are getting 3-4 hours of naptime per day? Cole is a catnapper. I'm lucky if I get 1 20 minute and 1 30 minute nap per day. He sleeps for 10 hours at night, but if he would sleep 12 hours I'd love it!

Re: Is 12 hours of sleep a night too much?
Thanks ladies. I didn't wake him up on purpose. I ran into his room in a panic and I suppose I was too loud and scared him awake. I just got worried. I wasn't complaining about him sleeping too much, believe me . I just wanted to make sure it was normal. Thanks again!

as long as the baby's weight gain is steady then let the baby sleep. If the weight gain starts to wain...then you may need to wake the baby up once during the night to eat.
