need advice from teachers

To make a long story short my husband changed jobs and I am moving back to NY...I was teaching Maryland...I taught there for 4 years...I know its late, but do you think it is possible to still get a teaching job on LI?? If so, where and what school district? Should I just go and visit schools and see what's up?

I checked and my certification from MD is acceptable for NY, but I have not yet applied for the NY certificate...does it take a long time to get?

Sorry I just didn't know where to post this.

Ummmm... with a lot of budgets being defeated on the first round this year, many schools have had to stop hiring for new positions or even excise people. In my district a guidance counselor who was with us for 8 years was let go because she had the least seniority.
We also had to let aides go as well.

What grade and subject area do you teach?

Of course they are always in need of math, science, foreign language and special ed. If you are certified in those areas you would have an advantage.

There's always the city and BOCES... I know, no picnic.

Check the NYtimes website and various districts websites. I know my district only accepts applications via the web now.

You might get lucky this close to school. Things happen and people leave. Good luck.

Hi,

It's still possible, plenty of people get jobs in August. What is your certification area?

I would call up a BOCES office and see what they say, or look on NYSED.gov to find out. You can google Nassau or Suffolk Boces to get a number.

Good luck!

I definitely agree about calling BOCES, they are the best!
