clothes sizing question...

how far ahead is the sizing of clothes compared to age of baby?

Like if your baby is 2 months old, are they wearing 0-3 or 3-6 month? I'm trying to stock up on stuff that is dirt cheap!

Re: clothes sizing question...

The joys of living were it is pretty warm all year round!

Jack was born 7lbs 14oz and was in newborn for about 10 days then 0-3 months and at 6 1/2 weeks moved into 3-6 months ( he needs it more for length then width and in Carters he can still wear 0-3 months as long as it doens't have feet.

Have fun shopping!

Re: clothes sizing question...

Nate is 14 lbs 7oz as of his Dr's visit last week (he was 7 weeks). He is wearing 0-3 months still. Even though most of the Carters stuff says 3M is 8-11lbs the clothes are still roomy on him. Like for Laurie's Jack as long as it doesn't have feet he can still wear 0-3M or 3M clothes.

I say to be safe buy stuff that are 0-3M and more of 3-6M. Don't buy too much Newborn stuff even if it's on sale.

Re: clothes sizing question...

thanks ladies! I'm buying 3-6 or 6-9 since it's warm here till Sept/Oct at least and since she'll be 6 mths old in July, most of it should take her through spring/early summer.

Right now Jake is 8 1/2 months and he is in 6-9 month. He was always true to size. I just found that the carters clothing with feet always shrunk. Have fun shopping!!!

I was going to say its hard to predict. My SIL and BIL are not big people and my neice is in 24 months at 13 months old! She always wore 3-6 months more or the next size up from about 2 months old on! She is not an average size baby though.

They change so quick. Kevin is a pretty big boy - always in 90 percentile in height and weight and seems to be outgrowing his clothes so far a month in advance of the size. He was in 0-3 for about 2 months and now is starting to outgrow his 3-6 at 5-5.5 months (nothing with feet fit).

It totally depends on the brands too. There is some 6-9 stuff that I just washed thinking he is ready and it was already too small!!! I am not sure how your friends and family is but my family and friends went nuts and I haven't had to buy anything up to 6-9 months. I had sooo sooo much 0-3, 3-6 and 6-9 - I had to return some and I only bought a few things here and there like undershirts or a cute outfit I couldn't resist.

Re: clothes sizing question...

I have to say, you'll never know until your child is born and starts his/her growth curve. At 15 months, I still can't buy ahead too much because everytime I think I've figured out her sizing, she surprises me. Gabriella was born at 7lb 3 oz and quickly shot up to 100% in height an 90% in weight. Needless to say we have always been a head in sizes.

I would get basics though that can be worn year round, like onsies and stuff. Also, you'll almost always need a pair or two of pants whether it's summer or not (except this summer apparently Chat Icon )

I'm just lurking on parenting, but I used to work in Kids R Us & we always were told to go suggest the next size up from the age group. It does depend on the child though.

The 0-3 months clothes are big on most babies because they are supposed to fit up to 12 pounds, but they do grow out of them quickly. If something is on sale, it is best to get it a little bigger (probably 6-9 months), b/c even if she is small, she will fit into it at some point.

Re: clothes sizing question...

depends on the baby!

My guy is 9 months old and is in 18 months but I think he is the exception because hes just a big boy...usually they are true to size or a size bigger. Always better to buy a size bigger cause they can grow into them....if they are too small you cant STUFF them into it Chat Icon

Re: clothes sizing question...

it depends on the baby

I know marissa was true to size until she turned 41/2 months became 6-9 months and all her summer clothes are 12 or 18 months she will be 12 months in september. I am going to get her 18 month for fall and 24 months for winter I rather the clothes be alittle big so I can layer.

Re: clothes sizing question...

My niece works at Carter's and she said that she normally recommends that people buy the size larger then thier baby's actual age.

Re: clothes sizing question...

It really depends on the size of your baby.. If your dr told you that your baby looked like she was going to be really long, chances are they may not fit as long as other babys would...

My son was huge when he was born, in 0-3 for about two WEEKS... in 3-6 for about a month and a half.. and in 3-6 for a little longer.. it is also good to stock up on onsies, in all sizes.. just because poop has a way of showing up on the outside of a diaper waaaay to much, expecially for a 1st time mom!! Good Luck and Best wishes!!
