figuring out what different cries mean

I am having so much trouble figuring out why Christopher is crying. I keep hearing people say that I'll know which cries mean what, but so far I don't have a clue. When he cries, I don't know if he's hungry, tired, wet...

He's just under 4 weeks old. How long did it take you to start to be able to interpret your baby's signals better?

I still can't- I usually can tell if she is hungry by when she ate last.

I can also distinguish her pain cry from her other cries, but that is it.

I didn't figure it out till 6 weeks or later.

I'm still trying to figure out all the different cries! Its all trial and error, like sunny said the pain cry is different from the other cries.
I also know the whining I want my binky so I can close my eyes and sleep cry. But thats just with Hailey. I still can't figure out all of Zacharys - sometimes I think he cries just to cry.

I think around 6 weeks i was able to distinguish the crys. The pain/gas cry is totally different than the tired or hungry cry. With Jacob the tired or hungry cry sounds like a car that wont start..

If I had my Baby Whisperer Book I would type them out for you - they have them listed in the book.

I know the tired signs/whine. I am pretty sure I know the hungry cry but other than that its all guesswork.

Ummm my daughter is almost a year old, and the only cry I know is the pain cry. Other then that all I can tell is magnitude -- mad, or really really mad. LOL. I don't think that all babies have different cries, or I'm an idiot. (also likely)
