Ok girls, I need advice...(long post with poll, sorry)

As most of you know I work from home and I am a independent contractor (sales and marketing) for a title company. I love my schedule and the ability to work from home. I also love the real estate biz.
However, lately there have been some strange things going on at the corporate office. They have not been on top of details like they used to and I had to ask for my commission check twice last month because someone in payroll forgot to mail it. Chat Icon
I would look for another job if I was not 7 months PG right now. Plus, they are going to pay me all of my commissions for the months previous to maternity leave throughout my maternity leave. I think the company needs improvement in the way they handle details regarding employees. The work they do is excellent, but lately since a few good employees have left the work has taken more time to turn around and get in the hands of my clients.
I still want to be an independent, but I don't know if other companies would go along with that. I am so confused and worried that while I am on maternity leave the company will not do the right thing by me or my clients. TIA for the advice. Chat Icon

I would try and stick it out as long as possible. I mean I know they can't not hire you because you are PG, but do you think you would be able to find a job with a belly?

This is just it. AARRGHHH! Chat Icon
I know it is unrealistic for me to look now. However, I think it would work if I already have a client base and can bring instant business to a title company. Being an independent on a 1099, they would not have to pay me disability, benefits or anything other than my commission. Let's face it, most companies care only about how much you can benefit them. I feel I would bring a lot to the table.

ETA: If you were in HR, would you hire someone 7 months PG that had this kind of situation?

i agree...

as long as they are not screwing you with $$$ and/or affecting your mental and physical health, i would stick it out.

finding a new job is stressful as well, as much as i hated it, i knew once i got pregnant i was "stuck" for 9 months. if at any point there was a layoff, the plan was not to look for anything new and manage as best we could.

I would if I got the sense that they would come back after their leave. They also would not be paid for their leave having been here less than 6 mon. I would have to say that I'm probably the exception -- being a mom & in HR I think makes me see the bigger picture of getting a great employee in the long run. Most would not see that.

Thanks for all the advice, ladies. Chat Icon

I am going to stick it out and look for another job while on maternity leave. I figured this is what I would do all along, I just wanted different opinions.

Well, I am off to my 1PM meeting. Chat Icon

i would try to stay as long as you can stand it, at least until the baby is born.

i know first hand how hard it is to find a job while PG. I am 6 mos and every interview i go on, everyone is so nice and says they're willing to work with me, but then i never hear back.

i would wait til the baby is born, then take your time looking for sometihng to make sure it is exactly what you want
