Friends of different races

Do you still see the race?

I always find it amazingly interesting that when you become good friends with someone of a different race.....the race part seems to disappear and only the person remains...

ANyone else feel this?

Re: Friends of different races

I agree... Also because i'm 1/2 of an interracial couple. The only time I noticed it was the first time we locked our fingers when we were holding hands. I giggled, loved the way it looked, and that was the last time I noticed it...

Re: Friends of different races

I really never notice anyone's race...i mean if i'm describing someone I'll say "oh, he's 6 feet tall, asian." etc...but I never notice it in any way different than blond hair, brown hair.

And i like that A LOT

Maybe I'm not really sure what you mean. But to me race is like hair color, eye color, it's just another charfacteristic, I don't see anyone as "other". I probablly grew up ina much more diverse neighborhood than most people in LI,s o that might be part of it

Re: Friends of different races

I'm hispanic and my bf is irish/italian and I love that we have so many differences and yet so many similarities and values. He is just Anthony to me, the man that I love, and the man that I would have loved regardless of race.

I never look at anyone for what they are outside - I always look for who they are inside.

That is just too sweet!!
As for me, I agree with Red...if I am friends with someone I don't even notice it and if I am just meeting someone it is just part of their overall package.

Re: Friends of different races

Yup, I have a nephew (my sister's son) who is mulatto and I don't see race at all when I look at him, only a bundle of energy and love Chat Icon!!!

Funny story with him - he's 3 1/2 and just realized when he started preschool that his parents are different colors. One of the kids was teasing him because his mommy is white. So when my sister picked him up from school he asked her what color he is and she told him he's mulatto because mommy is white and daddy is black. He screamed back at her "I'm not allto I'm just white-black okay mommy!"

I dont know that I characterize anyone into categories Except for the NASTY people. Those people can be any race but they can stay out of my world.
