Flying with the baby

I was just wondering when is the first time you flew with the baby. DH and I are considering going to visit his family for his sister's high school graduation and its across an ocean so driving is just not an option. DH's extended family, including his grandmother, could meet the baby. The graduation is during my maternity leave, which is even better since I won't have to worry about missing work. I just have no clue as to how early a baby can fly.

TIA!

Only DH has flown with Joseph at 4 years old. We haven't had the opportunity to go anywhere with buying the house, etc.

They can fly as early as you need them to - my friend adopted her baby in My pediatrician recommendsyou wait to take them out after 6 weeks. The way planes are today with recycled air -- I would opt for the 6 week mark.

I flew with Nate to NY when he was 3 months old. The flight is less than 2 hours though. I honestly can't image what a longer flight would be like.... I was petrified that he'd cry the whole way there. Luckily, he slept most of the time.

I flew home from Ireland with Alex, he was 8 weeks old. He was great. The flight was 6.5 hours and not a peep out of him. He slept most of the way. The flight attendants even came up to us and said what a good baby.

I am anot sure but I am planning a trip to Florida when our baby will only be 8 weeks old. I want to take her to see my Grandmother and spend Passover with my parents - they live in Florida.

I don't know what the exact age is, but I know I've seen teeny tiny babies on flights I've been on. I would probably buy them a seat though so you can put their infant seat in it and buckle them in. That way you and DH won't have to hold the baby the whole time, and if there is turbulence, you'll know she will be safe.

We bought Alex a seat and it was great. When he was asleep DH and I were able to relax, sleep or read. However, you still have to hold the baby during take off and landing.

We flew w/ Patrick to Ireland @ 3 months. I would ask your pediatrician what they think.
