Couches and children? POLL included

Morning ladies I need your help. this weekend we are going shopping for new couches for our new place. We currently have leather couches and we hate them. They are very shallow and sticky in the summer. We would love to get material but everyone thinks we are NUTS!

They think we are crazy to want to get material with a baby. Does anyone have children and material what is your experience? TIA

We have material couches from Jennifer Convertibles... and in NATURAL WHITE, I might add! (Let's just say that DH, in his bachelor days, thought it would be a great idea to buy a $3000 WHITE couch! Chat Icon It was so damn expensive that we couldn't get rid of it, so we bought similar furniture at Jennifer Convertibles to match it recently). We made sure to buy the stain warranty when we purchased them... so far no problems, but then again, Alex is only 5 months old. But, we also have a dog and cat, and really, so far, no problems. Well, other than the time I marked the couch up with pen when I fell asleep on the couch while I was studying for the bar exam! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I didn't vote because we have leather and HATE them. They are old too, so now they are cracking. We are looking into getting new ones and I fell in love with a microfiber one. Someone once told me that microfiber is cheap fabric, but the price tag isn't and I really like them. I think the key is getting the stain guard on them. It costs a little more money, but is well worth it. I can't remember the details, but it has a number of years of guarantee so if it tears, gets stained or anything they will fix it for free. I think it is a necessity to get this with children.

I have chenille couches and while I love how they feel, they pill. Alot. Luckily with the color and look of the fabric, its not readily apparent and I go over them once in awhile with one of those pill combs. But I hate that about the chenille. I still vote for material over leather but I wanted to share that about chenille.

Our couches have microsuede (or fiber) and leather. We've had a throw up accidents and it was really easy to clean with a damp cloth. We did get the scotchguard when we purchased it.

MY SIL has 3 kids and a beige microsuede couch and loveseat. Everything just beads up on it. I think they are great. I have spilled red wine on it and it came right out. Leather would do the same but it is sticky and not as comfortable

This is what I currently have, and with a jack russel jumping on off, playing on it, and just use over the last year it still looks like new. We did get the stain guard, and warranty too.
