Need suggestions for my kitchen floor

We are doing a stainless caddy-cornered stove and range hood and then black dishwasher, fridge and wall microwave.

The cabinets are glazed maple with black rubbed into the crease.

I originally wanted a very dark granite countertop to bring out the black in the cabinets, but we have gone with a lighter granite with black in it a little.

I wanted wood floors, but DH wants tile, so I gave in.

All we have looked at are light tile thus far, but I had an epiphany last night that maybe we should be putting a dark tile on the floor.

Whadd'ya think?
Anyone put dark tile, almost blck, on thier floor? Pics?
Suggestions?

DH hates it BTW.

I think like cars and bathroom sinks/tubs, dark floors show dirt much more readily than light. Also, your cabinets and counters are a medium shade and some of your appliances will be black, so unless you have a wall of windows, you could make it seem like a cave with dark floors. I'd personally avoid it, and go fairly light.

they make these 12" porcelain tiles that are a mock-terracotta... this is what we have in the apartment. Ours are a sand color, and brighten up our cabinets (same color as yours). They look expensive and delicate, but are mid-priced and durable. Easy clean-up too....

Love dark floors in the kitchen - a dark slate is my current obsession (and I'm not even redoing the kitchen yet).

I have to disagree with the light floor analogy...I have white tile on my bathroom floor and wow! does it show every little black hair that falls from my head.

One thing I would advise, if you do go light on the tile...do not go light on the grout. Like I said, I have white floor tile (with black accent tiles) and went with a silver-grey grout - had I gone with a white grout, I would have drown myself in the tub long ago.

I have the exact same color cabinets and we used a blue slate tile on the floor. It looks good with our stainless steel and black appliances.

I love dark tile on the floor

we used emil heritage red canyon in our bathroom. it is a dark browny red with some black in it
