Re: What are some good interview questions to ask to a potential employee?

Why is the position open?

Ask how long the company has been in business, and if this is the only office?

Research the company online, and base some questions on what you learned from your research.

Re: What are some good interview questions to ask to a potential employee?

What's your greatest, strength?

What's your greatest weakness?

Tell me about a time you went above and beyond what was expected of you?

What kind of work environment do you feel suits you best?

What was your best/worst manager like?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In what ways do you apply your education or past experience to the job?

What is one major improvement you would make in your last company/inthe field, etc?

Re: What are some good interview questions to ask to a potential employee?

How do you handle (insert job aspects)?
Give me an example of how you handled the situation?

When I interviewed a person, she was going to have to have close contact with someone who is EXTREMELY demanding, very difficult, poor communicator, etc.

From the assistant posts, you may want to ask about their boyfriends & how they feel about glitter.Chat Icon

Re: What are some good interview questions to ask to a potential employee?

#1 - to check to see if they've done their homework - why do you want to work here?

#2 - where do you want to be in 5 years? (I've found this to be very telling...)

Also, asking them what questions they have is a great way to get a conversation started (of course, if they were prepared....)

Describe a difficult situation you have encountered and how you resolved it.

Tell me about a mistake you made at work and what you learned from it.

Why did you decide to pursue this line of work? (may not be appropriate for all jobs)

Those are both very telling to me--people often talk about their triumphs during interviews, but they don't talk about the things they messed up, and everyone messes up at some point.

Re: What are some good interview questions to ask to a potential employee?

I was once asked, if I HAD to list a negative work habit, what would it be?

That was a tough one, but a great question.

How about: in what ways did you improve your previous company above and beyond those around you?

How old are you?

Do you plan on going on maternity leave?

Why can't you just shut up for a minute?

Ok. Those last three are things you SHOULDN'T ask. Chat Icon

Re: What are some good interview questions to ask to a potential employee?

I told them that I worked too hard, too much. That it overtook my personal life. Chat Icon

Which, was actually true at the time.

Re: What are some good interview questions to ask to a potential employee?

How did you first hear about this position? (assuming they didnt come from a recruiter)

What do you know about this position?

What do you know about the company/industry?

Do you work best in a team environment or individually?

Typical: Strengths, weaknesses, long term and short term goals.

If their resume lists skills or knowledge of certain software apps or programs, ask them to rank their level of expertise.

At the end of the interview, ask if they have any questions for you.

Sorry, but I DESPISE these particular questions. So stupid. I once went on an interview where the whole time I was asked different variations of these questions and I wanted to kill myself.
Talk to me like a human being! This woman kept saying, "ok, well give me an example when..."...I got to the point where I just couldn't give her any more "examples".

Re: What are some good interview questions to ask to a potential employee?

You need to ask questions that are competency based, so instead of asking what would you do if...ask something like, Can you tell me about a time, or Can you tell me about a situation. This way they can give you answers to questions with examples of what they have done.

Here are some examples:
Give me an example of when you have been asked to provide a solution for a client. (this would answer questions about customer service)

Can you tell me about a time when you have needed to persuade a number of people to change their views and opinions. (this is a good question about working with others)

You can probe these more with Who, When, Why type questions...

And I have been out of the game for 10 months now! I just dragged out a file to find those!!!

Good Luck!

ugh this just made me think that I have to go back to work in 3 months and do INTERVIEWS...oy!
