What is your favorite place to take your dog?
I take Ebony (in order of preference, not frequency):
1. Belmont Lake State Park - on a back trail, let him off the leash and he loves it!
2. Hempstead Lake State Park - also on the dog path, if no one is around I let him off the leash there too
3. Twin Lakes in Wantagh - off leash.
4. Nassau Beach Oct-March, but I think that dogs are no longer allowed on the beach  
I hate dog runs. He has such a great time running around, and he stays by me so I have no problems with him. Wish there were some places where it is ALLOWED to have him off the leash...

When we take Casey anywhere it is to the beach she loves to swim. She really isn't a runner, she just loves to lounge in the yard.

i take my dogs to dog parks too.
whereever i go i always havea dog with me though, so my fave place to take my dog(s) is everywhere. i am rarely seen without one of them.
as for parks, i usually go to McCarren Park, Tompkins or Washington Sq

Twin Lakes....Wantagh Ave. South to Park - turn right -- pass library and wave hello to MrsMck's husband .... and then you will pass over the Wantagh Parkway and then you will pass over the lakes. Parking is on south side of street only, and there is a lake right there, or cross the road to the north lake.
It's called Twin Lakes Preserve.

I just let them run around our yard. None of them are Fantastic on the leash, and the Shibas & the Crested would take off & never come back.

LOL -- there is NEVER enough space for a Retriever - Lab or Golden!!
I think Ebony stays as young as he is because he goes to the park almost every day. Most labes get very heavy (prone to obesity) but he is in great shape....I attribute it to this. And good food, and lots of TLC!
Now if only his MOMMY could be in as good shape as he is!

I take Oreo and Ollie down to the beach where I grew up. There is a creek that runs along the edge of the public beach; it is very private and lots of room to run in the salt marshes and fields. They also love going to Nanny's house in Orient - they have so much room to run and can go play in the water. I don't know of any areas that allow them off the leash. There used to be one in Huntington but they stopped that.

we take Tiger to Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai later in the evening when there is hardly anyone there.
Would love to know if there are any doggy parks in Suffolk.

We have a truck so we drive on to beach east gilgo (I think that is what it's called)is a state park. If you go east of wantagh pkwy on ocean pkwy you'll only see a sign for 4x4 vehicles.
I have to check out twin lakes

There is a park in Suffolk on Montauk Highway...it's in West Bayshore, just east of the Robert Moses, called Gardiner's Park. You are actually allowed to bring your dog there and many people do. I used to take my dobie there and let him off the leash all the time so he could run. As long as your pup will come back to you it's not a problem, I have seen some people with their dogs off leash that can't get them to come, and other people will say something to them. It also goes down to the bay, so you can let them swim.

I get nervous around dog runs, you just never know with strange dogs...my dog loves to run around the yard and walk the neighborhood!
