Gift Vent-I hate when someone
hands me a gift, and I am caught off guard with nothing for them. I feel bad and guilty, incredibly cheap.....

Don't feel bad...it's bound to always happen. And remember, behind every gift is a good deed. You may have done something kind over the year for them and they are showing their appreciation. I know I got caught off guard by one of my DM's today and I no started one of his companies this year!

Im sorry I misread your posting. I thought u were asking what everyone hates. But I know what u r saying but I had a solution to that. I brought in a huge bag with extra gifts and when someone gave me something, I pulled one out of my bag.

I wouldn't worry too much. As long as you are appreciative, I'm sure that's all the giver wants. When you give a gift, do you expect something back? Its just nice to give something and make the other person happy.

Uggghh - I know what you mean. You end up feeling so bad but I like what was said above about the good deed.
I've had this happen so many times that now I have extra gifts. If I see something nice (and especially on sale) I'll grab it, wrap it and keep it with me in the office or at home just in case. I try to make sure it's something that will be of interest on a braod level - or something that I would like.

I think like that too.
Ditto. It's about giving the gift, not getting one to the gift giver - but yes, I hate being take off guard too.

I have learned to keep extra gender-neutral gifts around - already wrapped with a blank name tag on them - just for times like this!
It's so uncomfortable!

OOOO ME 2!
Last year all my aunts and uncles went all out on me and DH... I guess because we had just gotten engaged...
I had nothing for them... we never exchange that far, only immediate family...
This year...I know there all gonna buy for the baby...and I have no idea if there gonna do me and ryan as well...
So I had to go out and by them things... and it so hard $$$ wise @ christmas as it is...let alone to buy for all of the...
I also hate when I buy someone a gift, and they have nothing for me... NOT because I dont get a gift...BUT because you can see how uncomfortable they feel!!
I told my mom...next year...we buy for children... (which is only my son and 2 little cousins) and they adults do a grab bag...because buying for everyone is outta control!
