We have a MAJOR ant problem!

HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!

About 6 months ago we were noticing a lot of ants so we put out traps and they were gone quickly.

Then about 2 weeks ago we noticed they were coming back so we bought another pack of traps but there were still a lot of ants. So then we bought a second box of traps. They are still all over the place.

When I got home from work I put my bracelet back in my jewerly box and there were some in there!

Just now I went to get some snacks and there are ants literally in every box of food I have! I am about to go and throw everything out but still I dont think we should have to live like this! Do you think that we should alert the landlord? Do exterminators get rid of ants?

Re: We have a MAJOR ant problem!

Chat Icon I would contact the landlord ASAP!!!

When they're crawling in your jewelry box and all over your food...ugh...don't waste ANY time!

Let him/her know what measures you've already taken.

Good luck!Chat Icon

I would contact the landlord immediately. An exterminatator should be able to take care of it

Chat Icon You ladies are right its time for an exterminator.

DH doesnt want to complain to the landlord just yet Chat Icon so he just went to Target for more traps and to see if they have spray or anything....if it continues any longer we will let the landlord know.

I am going in the kitchen to throw all my food away now!

I am so mad!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: We have a MAJOR ant problem!

You should defintely get the landlord involved. We had a simliar problem in our first apartment and the landlord brought in an exterminator who couldn't get rid of the. The landlord refused to use anyone different and we moved out because of it. They were in our bed, crawling in the shower, walking across the living room floor, etc.

Re: We have a MAJOR ant problem!

Definitely talk to your landlord. We had a similar problem with roaches (ick). We've been roach free for a full year since the exterminator came.

Ohhh man in your bed?

I know we should let the LL know but we have had so many issues in the past - major problems with the tenants upstairs, termites (3 yrs ago), broken toilet twice, broken fridge, etc.....we just dont want to deal with him right now. I know it sounds so whimpy and its not like us but we are looking to move soon anyway. We are going to give it a few more days I think.....

Re: We have a MAJOR ant problem!

you should tell your landlord. do you live in a building or is there someone else living under or over you? chances are they probably have the problem too and there should be an extermination there and at your place.

i learned way too much about bugs when i moved into a place that had roaches. i moved out 2 weeks later. granted it is Australia and roaches are common there, but they shouldnt be all over the place.

talk to your landlord.

Re: We have a MAJOR ant problem!

We had a carpenter ant problem at our apartment and those little traps did NOTHING. We finally told our landlord and he was perfectly fine with calling an exterminator. Now, in our new house, we had a carpenter ant problem yet again. I didn't feel like paying for an exterminator and already knew the traps didn't work. I ended up buying stuff from Home Depot called Orthopro Home Defense. Basically you spray it around the permiter of your place inside and out and it lasts for three months. It's the only thing that really worked from us (aside from getting an exterminator)

Awww sorry Heather!
I know you dont want to stir up anything with the landlords but honestly, this is why you rent... so everything is NOT your responsibility.

Re: We have a MAJOR ant problem!

I would definitely contact the landlord. We had really bad ants when we first moved in. The landlord sent the exterminator and they disappeared.

This year we decided to try the Terro traps. They are incredible! We bought them at BJ's and haven't seen any ants all summer long. They really do work.

Re: We have a MAJOR ant problem!

Sounds like it's time for an exterminator. I'd speak to the landlord.

We had an ant problem and I realized one day they were actually living in a plant someone gave us at our housewarming! As soon as we got rid of it the ants were gone.

If you have plants try moving them and if ants appear where you move them to, or if ants congregate where the plant was that may be the source.

Re: We have a MAJOR ant problem!

A few ants here and there are one thing, but your apartment sounds like its infested. You cant live like that. You have to tell your landlord. Plus, you may not be the only tenant with this problem. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
