Re: Advice needed - pics on work computer

I would bring it to her attention and let her deal with it.

A few days ago I came across some very provocative pictures of one of my co-workers on a computer at work. (We all share the computers in the office). The pics were in the Recycle Bin. This isn't the first time she has been caught with putting pics of herself on the computer and was given a warning. So, do I erase the pics for her to avoid her getting in trouble again and possibly fired; do I let her know I came across them and suggest she remove them; or do I bring it to our boss' attention? What should I do?

Personally I wouldnt get involved, don't incriminate yourself. She might get mad and ask why you were 'scrounging around' in the recycle bin.

Just my .02!

I would delete the pict and tell her that she should be more careful.

Unless, of course, you don't like her...I would mind my own business.

They are pics of her in "sexy" poses; half-naked...And, this wouldn't be the first time I have deleted them without telling her or our boss. I'm also responsible for regular computer maintenance of the two computers we have so I have to clean the drives, remove files, etc.

Re: Advice needed - pics on work computer

Could they have been the same ones she got in trouble for and just never REALLY deleted them?

Some people don't understand the Recycle Bin concept.

I would just delete them and not say anything.

I would mind my own business. She is obviously a moron. She'll get caught doing something stupid whether it's now or later. Stupid people always get caught. Might-as-well not stress yourself about it.

I would tell her that a part of your job is to clean up the computers, etc.. and that you found some pictures of her in the recycling bin. Let her know you don't want to get her in trouble, so you are letting her know and that she should be more careful so that you don't find these kinds of pics again.

If it's your job to maintain the computers - it's your job to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I would tell her about the recycling bin and explain the concept to her. Also explain that the boss can see deleted pictures even if she does empty the recycling bin (there is a way to recover deleted files). The next time it happens, I would just tell the boss.

The last thing you need is to have someone messing around on a computer that is your responsibiity.

Re: Advice needed - pics on work computer

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm just going to delete them and let her know I did so. Hopefully she'll get the hint and not do it again. If it happens again though, I'll have to say something to my boss since I think it also puts me in a sticky situation being that I've hid this from the higher-ups once before.

Re: Advice needed - pics on work computer

that is a sticky situation but I think the ladies here gave you great advice. I agree with letting her know b/c you are responsible for the maintenance of the computers.

Good luck, I hope you aren't put in this situation again! Chat Icon

Re: Advice needed - pics on work computer

I know that people in my department (I was an IT manager) are responsible for reporting such stuff if this is found. I know it is a very awkward position to be in but this is company policy which is signed by us and our responsibility to enforce. We actually scanned all computers in our company (mostly for child porn - because morally we felt this wast he worst) during an upgrade. Having this material on company property puts your department and the entire company at risk for lawsuits and the such

I think deleting what was found is your first step and explaining to her what was done and what the consequences would be if found again. If found again you should go to your superiors immediately, you hiding such info can get you in just as much trouble. Good Luck.
