Opinions wanted

My dd is 3 months old and weighs close to 15 lbs. She falls alseep at 8 every night and lately has been waking up after 5 hours to eat. She'll eat and then go back to sleep for another 5. Do you think there is anything I can do to stop her from eating at the 5 hour mark and sleep through being that she is on the heavy side?

Re: Opinions wanted

Honestly, she will probably do it on her own...Bella was around 13 lbs at her 3 month and my Doc said she didn't have to wake for her 3 am bottle...we tried to stop it and she freaked...

she wound up doing it on her own two and a half weeks later...
Good Luck!

Re: Opinions wanted

Does she take a pacifier? Maybe it's the sucking that soothing (just a thought). As for the 5 hours straight at 3 months old... that's fantastic!! I was lucky if Madeleine slept for 3 hours straight... Was she a big baby when she was born? I would think that would play a big part...

Re: Opinions wanted

My son started night wakening for food in his 3rd month (he started sleeping thru the night at 11 weeks and then started waking up aroudn 14 weeks). He was about 15/16lbs (more than double his birth weight) at the time so my dr ok'ed to start cereal to see if it helped and it did. He needed a little more in the day and my dr preffered it not be more formula since he was already at 32 oz and she said at that age I shouldn't go over that. Not sure if you or your dr would be open to that. Cereal can cause constipation/gas which could cause more night wakenings from pain but in my case it did not.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think she is old enough for you to drop the feeding regardless of her size. If she sleeps through on her own, thats fine. If she wakes up looking to eat though, I think she should still be fed. You are very lucky to be down to just one feeding with a 10 hour night!

Re: Opinions wanted

At 3 months old it is VERY normal for her to need to eat at that hour. I would not drop that. If she needs to eat, I would feed her.

At 10 weeks (13lbs) I started giving Jack five 6 ounce bottles every day and that did the trick. If he did wake up and cry, I would let him CIO or hold him but I did not feed. It took a few days but he stopped. He sleeps from 7:30pm to 7am and does not wake. He is now 16 weeks... 15.3 lbs and 27 inches.

Where does she sleep? Neither one of my kids slept through the night until we moved them out of our room and into their own.

Re: Opinions wanted

Our doctor suggested that we give her the same amount of formula but skip the 3am feeding. What we worked out was that instead of feeding her every four hours we fed her every three hours. We were able to fit the five bottle a day in this way and she was fine. She woke up once the first night and I went in and gave her a kiss and left the room. She went right back to sleep and she has slept through the night ever since. It may have been a fluke but it is worth a shot. If she is over 11 pounds she can technically go 12 hours without a bottle.

Good luck.
