Not sure where this question belongs...

...Is there a way to tell (other than going to the doctor) if you're going to have trouble conceiving? Is that a stupid question to ask the doctor before your TTC? Would she be able to tell?

TIA

Re: Not sure where this question belongs...

Most doctors won't test you unless you have been trying for over 1 year (if you are under 35) or if you have been trying for at least 6 months (if you are over 35). Many tests for infertility can be quite invasive.
Is there any reason why you think you may have trouble?

Re: Not sure where this question belongs...

It’s not a stupid question to ask. But I personally wouldn’t go to anyone but a doctor to find out if I could conceive or not that’s what I went to do a couple of months ago when they told me I was already pregnant.

A friend of mine went to a doctor to get herself checked out before trying to conceive so for me personally I think it’s a good place to go to find out.

I dont' think it's a silly question at all. Like the other girls said regarding age and time TTC. Only time will tell. I do think it's a natural fear/concern to have. I know I had that same concern before I was TTC.

Re: Not sure where this question belongs...

I worried about this, but then I got pregnant on the first try. I did go to my doctor for an exam about 6 months before we started TTC. Everything was fine. He told me to come back if we were having problems TTC. He told me the average couple takes 6-8 months to conceive.

I would suggest getting an ovulation calendar and tracking down your cycle. I got one from ivillage for 13 dollars a year. For 6 months I tracked my cycle and learned that I have a 26 days cycle (not 28 like most women). Once we decided to start TTC we did on the day the calendar said I was ovulating. Now in 6 weeks I will be meeting my little girl.

GOod luck to you Chat Icon

I'm the type that if there is a 99% of something going right I'm the 1% that it goes wrong to...so I was just wondering if there was a way I could find out.

I thank you for all the responses. I will go to the doctor and ask when the time comes.
