Can you or DH talk to your BIL and tell him how you feel?

In truth, if Pitbulls are trained properly, they shouldn't be any more dangerous than any other dog, but I would be wary as well.

And I think a newborn and mom are more important to figure into the equation than a Pitbull and girlfriend.

He is promising to have the dog trained fully and since she is such a baby now that it should be ok...it's weird the dog actually clings to me...so I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing. I am sure the dog will be fine...but the fact that we have to worry about her snapping one day is not appealing to me.

As frightening as it sounds, I dont think its that bad at all. Its a puppy and NOW is the best time to train that dog- doesnt matter the breed. Pit bulls have a bad rap but I have friends who have them with kids and they are fine- very loving its all how that dog is raised. You never want to introduce a new dog to a baby, but having the dog first is the way to go. Give that puppy lots of love b/c yes they know you have a baby in your belly and since that dog will be around whether at your house or at your brothers house, it will remember your scent and the baby and you want that dog to be good to your child. Dont be afraid of the puppy they are most vulnerable right now and they are so fuzzy now too.

Re: BIL RANT-NEW PET IN THE HOUSE...

My dog is actually a pitbull and yellow lab mix. As you can probably tell from my chat avatar, he looks like a large Jack Russell terrier. I agree with the posters who stated that pitbulls get bad reps. However, it is absolutely essential that they be trained early and have responsible owners. Our dog Micky had more issues as a puppy related to the fact that he was a shelter dog and possibly abused by his previous owner (DH adopted him when he was 6 months old). A lot of these stories you hear in the news about pitbulls are usually about irresponsible owners who either train these dogs to be aggressive or completely neglect the dogs. They are normally actually very loving dogs toward people and thrive off lots of TLC. I do watch my dog around other dogs, however, because he seems to have acquired that "alpha dog" mentality as he has gotten older.
Anyway, I think you will be fine. It's just important that your BIL starts training the puppy now. I know that I have to prep my dog as well to make the transition as smooth as possible.

hey tiff,
i have a pitbull and if it is trained right, then it will be fine around the baby, they do get very protective of those around it all the time though, we started already carring a baby doll around the house to get her used to it, and so far so good, so make sure it gets trained right!

We had a pitbull until about 3 months ago when she died, she was the most gentle loving dog and she was great around my little baby (he was only 4 months old when we stayed there) I wouldn't worry too much about it!!!
