Spinoff to iPod post... I have an iTunes Q

I have the Nano. every time I charge the iPod my songs disappear or go into other categories Chat Icon

does anyone know how to charge an iPod from the PC without updating it?

Edit/Preference
Click on "iPod" tab
Click on "Music" tab
Select Manually manage songs and playlists.
Click Ok

Click on "iPod" tab
Click on "Music" tab
Select Manually manage songs and playlists.
Click Ok

the iPod tab came up blank. it said "no iPod connected"

do I have to connect the iPod to make changes?

Yes...otherwise it doesn't know you want to make changes to your iPod...
