Uniondale....good/bad areas???

Can anybody help us out with any info you have?? We don't know the area, and don't know where we should/shouldn't consider regarding homes.

TIA

Re: Uniondale....good/bad areas???

I use to live in Uniondale for about 12 years, and I still have a number of friends who live there, so I am there pretty often.

To be honest, growing up there was great. I loved it. However, Uniondale is definitely not what it use to be.

Since I lived there, I stay current whenever I hear Uniondale in the news, and unfortunately, I often hear about crime. Aside from news stories, I know of personal accounts. A very good friend of mine was robbed in his car at gunpoint earlier this year when he was parked outside waiting for a friend to come out. He wasn't even alone, it was him and two other people, but a group of 5 guys came and robbed them. My best friend's car has been broken into 3 times in the past two years.

My best friend, his brother, and sister, all spent their whole lives in Uniondale public school, but now his niece was just pulled from there this year and started Catholic School because of problems.

Growing up, it seemed as if the whole elementary school was out for Halloween trick or treating. It was great, we would travel in packs and have so much fun. Last year, my best friend told me only one kid came to his house!

If you do choose to live in Uniondale, stay as North as possible, north of Front St. closer to Hempstead Tpke, and Hofstra. I would avoid southern Uniondale (near Nassau Rd.).

Just my opinion and experiences.

Re: Uniondale....good/bad areas???

I grew up in Uniondale and like the other person said it's not the same. My parents still live there. We personally have not had any problems with crime and such. We live close to Uniondale Library, 2 blocks west of Uniondale Ave and 2 blocks south of Front street. I would stay away from anywhere near Nassau Rd.

That said, there are still very nice neighborhoods in Uniondale. North of Jeruselam or even north Front Street is better. I can't speak on the schools bc my youngest brother graduated 2 yrs ago. It's become a lot more diverse in the last 10-15 yrs. I would say that 75-80% are minority, but most of which are working middle class families. It's totally a matter of preference, I personally like the more diverse areas of LI. Like anything go with your gut and do the research. Visit the homes and look at the areas, go at different times of day.

IF you have any specific quesitions about Uniondale, FM me. Good Luck.
