Need him to sleep an entire night
He was doing it until we went to my inlaws for thanksgiving so I know he can but since we got back he goes to sleep at 7pm wakes around 3 without pacifier and super wet diaper (he's on size 5 overnights) and then goes back to sleep till 7am.
He doesn't have bumpers in his crib anymore but I give him numerous pacifiers in there already. Once he has woken up with his leg out of one of the slates (ouch!) but I need a full nights sleep if even just occasionally.
He is 7 months two weeks.
Now do I try to wean him from a pacifier totally? and how? He only uses it to sleep and occasionally in the car. or do I ignore him and let him CIO a few times... help?

Laurie,
When he wakes (other than the time with the foot through the slat) is he wimpering or full on crying? If he is just wimpering I would let him go, he will probably put himself back to sleep. If he is crying I would give it to him. How many pacifiers are in his crib?? My SIL used to leave 5 or 6 in there so if her child woke through the night he would just feel around for one and pop it in.
I hope you get some sleep soon

I think it's a little early to wean him from the pacifier. He may get better at finding one of them in his crib and things will get better. One thing about weaning from the pacifier too early is that sometimes they will start sucking their thumb and then you can't take that away. He's doing well since he's not using it all the time. Do you think it's the diaper that waking him up? I don't really know a solution for that other than giving him a smaller bottle before sleep? I could never do CIO - some people can, but it would just eat me up. I hope things get better and you get some sleep soon!

Well we tried no pacifiers for nap time and well he's not having it just yet and I can't deal with the crying since he never cries. He only really uses one for bed and naps so I think I'm going to just keep him stocked up (maybe buy some glow in the dark nams) and turn my moniter off at night and hopefully he will get better at finding them but without the bumper alot end up on the floor. I give him about 4.
His last bottle is abour 2 hours prior to his bedtime so he isn't super filled up when he goes to sleep it might be more me then him thinking he needs a new diaper.

I disagree with this. It totally depends on the baby. We weaned my daughter at 4.5 months from the pacifier when we realized that she was able to get to sleep just as quickly without it and she was with it. We were actually making her get-to-sleep process worse by entering the room to give it to her (she'd get more angry when we didn't pick her up). My daughter isn't the norm though, sounds like the pacifier is really helping Laurie's son!

Oh I totally agree all babies are different and have different needs..
My first son, it was almost 3 years before he was weaned off the pacifier.. he used to hide them from us and **** on them when he felt we werent looking...
My last son..he also didnt need the pacifier.. he just didnt want it and I would try to stick it in his mouth when he would wake up thinking it was what he wanted but he just never took to them...Needless to say.. he never used one again after about 4 weeks of thinking " I thought ALL babies NEEDED a pacifier"
I just always feel that if a baby needs something, like a pacifier.. at 7 months maybe there is no need to wean them off of it.
If its what comforts him, then why not give it to him?
