I must be crazy, but.....UPDATE #2....

I'm trying Ava on the Alimentum again today. I just gave her .5oz to see what happens. So far, so good. Last time, she spit it up all over the place right away, but I was also playing around w/other formulas and still giving her BM. Now that she's been solely on the Neocate for a week and having no stomache issues, I figured it would be a good time to really be able to watch her for any reactions since there's no other factors in place. Wish us luck because we're hitting more roadblocks with the insurance covering the Neocate and we just cannot afford it on our ownChat Icon

Aetna gave us the same runaround saying they needed to be tube fed, but apria got it covered. I actually needed a referral and a script, not sure why but I got both and they paid frlo it at 90%.

Good Luck!

Re: I must be crazy, but.....UPDATE....

UPDATE:

Ok, so Ava took the formula really well, however, it seems that it went right through her. She pooped less than ten minutes later. I know this happened last time, too. And that was just with a half ounce. However, her belly didn't hurt her. Infact, she played on her playmat for entire hour after I gave her that and didn't spit up or anything once.
So, is the quicking pooping considered an adverse reaction? Could it just be the change in formula? I can't for the life of me remember if this happened when we switched her to the Neocate.

It may just be a pooping coincidence- if she is feeling good that is a good sign. Good luck!

Could the quick pooping just be a coincidence??? I say keep up with it for 24 hours and see how it goes!

Just from my experience, I used to try to give Noah formula and he would violently throw up like within 3/4 hours, so I stopped giving it to him, I tried it every few weeks and the same thing, then one day tried it again and he was fine with it..granted he didn't like formula and it took ages for us to get him to drink more than a few sips of it...but sometimes their systems mature a little bit more and that helps!

Good Luck!!!

Re: I must be crazy, but.....UPDATE #2....

Ok, update #2...I gave her another half ounce before her last bottle, and so far, it has not come out of either end of herChat Icon And she doesn't seem any worse for the wear. Tomorrow, I'll try one ounce before giving her the Neocate and see what happens.

My son, when he was an infant, would always have BMs while either drinking breast milk or formula or immediately after and the ped said it was normal.

I hope Ava continues to do wellChat Icon

I am not sure if this would be an option but did you considering making your own formula? My mother had done this with my 2nd brother. She had tried various formulas and at that time (18 years ago) they didnt have some of the more specialized formula's and in the Dr. Spock book they had a recipe for it and it worked like a charm. My brother was very "colicly" and just not a happy baby up until she did it.

Re: I must be crazy, but.....UPDATE #2....

the pooping thing is from the formula and it is completely NORMAL..my dd is on Alimentum and has been since 2 months.....since all the proteins are predigested it goes through them a lot faster...once her body gets used to it she will be fine....

My son's poop was strange and frequent when we first switched him.

I am so glad she is feeling better though.

Re: I must be crazy, but.....UPDATE #2....

Just FYI, we were getting the run around for like 2 months getting Neocate covered, it really is the ONLY thing DS can have. Finally DH went to his human resources at work and they got on the phone with the ins co and they are going to cover it. Now they are working on getting all our money back for us.

This is what I told JT to do. Has he done it? NoChat Icon ARGH!Chat Icon The whole issue with the insurance is that his company did not opt for that as a covered benefit, but if he talks to them, they may cover it. Why does he NOT get that?
