Blood test
When you get a BFP on a pregnancy test, do you have the blood test done with your OBGYN or regular doc? Just wondering for the future!

Sorry to but in on this board... but when I got prego all 3x I never got any kind of blood test. I called my docs after getting a BFP at home and went for a sono at 7 weeks.

Same for me. They usually confirm with a urine test if you have had issues in the past and give you an early sono. But anyway I would go to my gyn.

They confirmed mine by Urine test and ultrasound.. They then sent me to Quest for a battery of bloodwork. I think it was 13 viles.

I have to go and the blood test is for a bunch of things..cystics Fibrosis(sp?), HIV, etc. and i feel thats important
since I havent had a blood test in quite some time.
Im going within a wk and my obgyn is sending me.
ETA: confirmed pregnancy thru Urine but the blood test also confirms it.

I think that usually if you mention you are PG, they will bring you in faster than the regular wait as you need to start getting monitored.

Right now nothing... but I thought that once you found out you were pregnant you had to get a bloodtest? Maybe I'm confused!

So when you get a positive--you are supposed to call your OB right away? I thought that they didnt see you until you were about 6-8 weeks along....

I called my doctor (OB/GYN) the day I got my BFP and they did have me come in that day for a blood test (they call it a beta). Most doctors will take blood to see your beta levels (has to be over a certain # to confirm pregnancy). They will usually ask you to come back in 2 or 3 days to retake it. The beta should double every 2 days to confirm viable pregnancy. Then you have the sonogram around 6-8 weeks depending on your doctor. After the sonogram they do take vials of blood to test all sorts of levels about 4 vials (thyriod, white blood count, blood type, etc.) Depending on your heritage they may do genetic testing (since my dad is Jewish they do genetic testing - they took 12 vials rather than just 4.)

When I got my BFP , I went to my OB and got a urine test, not a blood test
ETA: they did take blood but that was to test other things: ex, HIV, STD's, blood type, anemia, etc.....

Really? I never had a m/c (thank goodness) and I didn't start spotting until after my first sono at almost 6 weeks.
I guess every doctor is different. My girlfriends also all had betas and I don't believe any of them had m/c's.

Sorry - went away for the weekend. AHHHH. When I got pregnant all 3 times I never had a blood test to confirm. I went in at my 7 week appointment for a urine test and a sono to confirm. I never had any beta levels done even when I had my M/C. I guess it all depends on your doctors.

I called my dr office today to tell them that I got a BFP on Saturday.
They told me that my dr. will not see me until 8 weeks, so they gave me an appt. for 9/25. However, they are sending me for my ultrasound a week before the appt. and they said that I can walk in anytime for the blood test....I guess that is the beta.
Anyhow, they are mailing me all of the information today that I need to know.
