So it is my friends Birthday today..
and ever since 9-11-01 he has decided not to celebrate his birthday anymore. He feels to selfish being happy and celebrating on such a sad day.

Today is my co-workers anniversary. He and his wife are married 14 years. He said it's just not the same. Especially since he was suppose to be in the towers for a presentation but it got cancelled 2 days prior.

That's touching and sad. My parents anniversay is also on 9/11, and we celebrate the day before since 2001.

That is sad. There was a feature on the news the other day about kids who were born on 9/11/01. The parents said that they still celebrate their births but do it in different ways. One said that she has a birthday party for her son, but it always has a patriotic theme. I guess the difference is that these kids are 5 years old and cannot understand what happenedthat day.
I can understand your friend's feelings, but I don't think he should feel guilty to celebrate his birthday... he can always celebrate the day before or after.  to you friend.

today is our dating aniversary....we began dating on 9/11/99.....and since 2001 have decided to just tell each other how much we appreciate our lives together but no longer celebrate - it just doesn't seem fair!

My nephew is one of those kids...(not one of the ones on the tx show -- but was born that day in NJ). Honestly, my nephew has no comprehension about what happened that day. I've always said it would be far worse for someone who was an adult or at least old enough to experience what happened that day... than it ever will be for him. For him -- 9/11 will be a historical event he reads about -- much like pearl harbor, vietnam, etc... are for me. He was every bit as excited for his bday this year as any other kid... and I'm glad for that.
I am sorry that your friend won't celebrate.. I think he should try to celebrate on another day if he can't bring himslef to do it the day of!
