Painting and priming
If we go ahead and start painting the interior of our house, would we be able to do a whole room in 1 day? Meaning, can you prime the molding (dark brown wood) and then paint over it, and paint the walls the same day or do we have to do it in 2 different steps to give it time to dry? We're not planning on taking any molding off. But the molding all around and inside the windows are brown also. Thanks!

Yep. you should be able to.. what colors are you painting everything and what colors are the walls now? that would also affect how long it would take =)

You should be able to as long as you prep the walls the day before.
Make sure all holes are spackled and sanded.
If you are painting mouldings a different color than the wall, Tape them the day before
Tape the ceiling the day before so you dont have towaste time doing it the day of painting
Clean the room out the day before or put down drop cloths.....to get the room ready.
If you can, Prime the trim the day b4. If not do it first, early in the morning. Then cut all the walls and Paint the walls....Then at the end paint the trim

Do you have to wait until the primer dries completely on the walls before you paint?
I'm going to be painting all 4 of my bedrooms. Two are very dark colors. One is a very dark blue (almost black) and the other is green (like the color of kermit the frog, hence we call it the kermit room). I'm guessing I would need more than one coat of primer especially in the blue room? I've never done this before, so I'm completely clueless!

Having painted over dark brown paneling in my den, I learned that you need tinted oil based primer to cover it best. The guys at the paint store should be able to help you and suggest how dark the tint in the primer should be.

yes you have to wait until the primer is dry, otherwise it will be a disaster!
you will definitely need tinted primer (just one coat) and then probably 2 coats of the actual paint

Might be a stupid question, but is there such thing as a water based/latex primer? I don't feel comfortable using an oil based one with my son. Thanks!

There is, but it might take several coats to cover it. But I forgot about your son, you definatley don't want him around those fumes.

Thanks, do I get tinted primer close to the color I want to paint the room? or a color close to what's already on the wall?

just tell the paint people what color you are painting the walls, they'll give you something that will work. For instance, i just painted my dining room Cranberry, they gave me a ligth purple primer to cover the yellow walls.
