Don't know what to do!! - Job related
Okay, I have a real dilemma and would appreciate any advice!
Background - I live and work in the city...haven't been happy at my job for a while (don't like the industry, company and especially my boss!!) and have been looking to leave. I have been with the company for almost 5 years. In addition, DH and I are closing on our townhouse in NJ and are moving in a month. So I have been looking for jobs in only NJ bc I don't want to commute (I've done it before and I become miserable very quickly).
So, fast forward to my dilemma - I received a job offer for a company in NJ (about 25 - 30 minutes from where we will be living). From what I can tell through meeting with people, job description, etc...I feel ambivalent about the position (which is about the same as how I feel about my position now - no worse, no better). I would prob be making slightly more than I am making now (including bonus - would probably come out to be a couple grand more at the new job). I am just not sure if I should take the position? Or, keep looking for something that I feel more excited about...although from what I understand, the pay in NJ is usually slightly less than the city, so do I take this job for the $$? If I wait and continue to keep looking for something better, it will get harder for me bc of the commute, and I know that I will start to be unhappy shortly after my commute kicks in.
But, I am also scared of making a mistake and accepting a job and not liking it. I know what it is like to HATE your job and I don't want to be in that position again!!
Okay, sorry this is so long, but I am really confused! I have to let them know if I accept by tomorrow morning, and I change my mind every hour!!!!!!!!!

take the job and keep looking- at least you wont have to go to the city- and maybe you will actually like it- you never know

for me the commute would be a big factor.
are you willing to commute into the city for the current job you have? Also, you will be making more money for doing the same type of job? and the hours?
I would say, take it. You arent happy with your current job and if you take this one, and dont like it...you can always look for another one! You never know, you might end up loving this job!!

I would give the new job a try -- you are already unhappy where you are now and the new place may surprise you in that you may be happier. If you don't like it, at least you are in a much better position to look for a new job in Jersey.

I've had this same exact experience. I left that job within 5 months. It messed up my resume because of it.
I would keep looking.

I would take the job and keep looking. If your unhappy at your job currently you wouldn't be gaining anything if you stayed there. Plus you never know you may end up liking the job in NJ.

I think I am leaning towards taking it...we'll see what I think tomorrow morning when I have to give my final decision!!

Hmmm..this is hard. I had a job I hated and fiv emonths before my wedding quite and started a new one...scary...but it worked out in the end. I am leaning towards saying - go for it - accept the new job and see where it takes you. Good Luck!

Since you don't like your current job, you really aren't risking much by leaving it. I'd take the new job—worst case scenario is you'll find yourself in a similar situation to what you're in now, minus the commute.

i'd say take the job in nj and keep looking until you find somthing youre really excited about ... but ya never know, you may end up liking this new one. good luck
