I did a mini review in my other post... but really it was incredible.
I had read some not so great things on trip advisor.com, but I didn't understand any of them.
People complained drinks were weak - I never had one that was and if you asked for more alcohol they gave you more. I saw people asking for double rum and getting it with no problem.
There were six restaurants to choose from for dinner, four for lunch, and a breakfast buffet. Plus you could order room service 24 hours a day included. I thought the food was good.. some things were incredible, others just good, but I never went hungry. There were a ton of bars around the pool and in the lobby. Our mini bar had beer, soda, water, and a bottle of rum refilled every day, all you did was leave a note with what you wanted and it was there.
The place was very clean with fresh flowers and incense burning everywhere. They even had fresh flowers in the public bathrooms around the sink (I'll post that picture)...
They had a show every night... some were kind of cheesy but it killed some time. We checked out the disco too, which was okay.
They have 2 pools, one which is very quiet and the main one which is huge! They have a swim up bar but the pool never feels crowded. The beach is very clean with tons of huts to sit in the shade, but the water is kind of rough, because it is the Atlantic Ocean. Its good for boogie boarding. NOt so good for snorkeling around there because you get pulled by the undertow.
Like I said before, it was $1500 cheaper than St. Lucia Sandals 3 years ago, and I felt it was just as good and in some ways better than that.
Oh... and every room had a jacuzzi in it. And they gave you bathrobes too!

Glad you enjoyed your vacation- Danielle and I are going to Sunscape the Beach in Punta Cana in about 3 hours. It is 3am now and the taxi is picking us up in 1 hour

I stinkin LOVED that place...DH and I are planning on going back at SOME point!
Donna: to answer your questions:
the rooms, even the most basic are pretty big. ALL ROOMS have a jacuzzi tub!! Ask for the 3rd floor rooms (they call it the 2nd floor-they go ground, 1, 2 when in reality it's 1,2,3) That top floor has cathedral ceilings!! SO nice!
Everyone there is so nice and friendly! They go out of your way to get you what you want. One morning at breakfast, they didn't have fresh pineapple, (I was wearing a Sammy Sosa shirt-he's from there) and one of the "chefs" asked where I was sitting and went in the ktichen and brought me my own sliced pinapple!!
Food:amazing! We ate at the steak/burger place twice. The french place was really nice. We ate at the Dominican place-ethnic food-wierd. DH ate GOAT!!! Didn't try the mexican. Room service is so so-we tried the pizza on our first night there-eh. Service is fast though!

I went to that Secrets in June 2003 and LOVED it. Beside Tahiti (our Honeymoon), DH and I still say it was the most fantastic vacation either of us had ever been on. Everything about it, from the employees to the bars to the lazy river pool to the "private" beach (not really private - you just walk about 200 yards to the right of the hotel and it may as well be private  ), to the many restaurant, etc was amazing.
At the end of October, we are trying another Secrets Resort, Secrets Excellence Riviera Cancun. We would have gone back to DR but now there are 3 resorts so we have to try them all out! I do a lot of research on trip advisor.com and all the all-inclusives get mixed reviews. It seems the Secrets Resorts get consistently good reviews (there are always a few people that will find ANYTHING to complain about). For us, Secrets DR was a magical place.

we went to Secrects Excellence in Mexico and for our HM is was amazing so I am glad to hear the one in Punta Canta was great.

We actually didn't do any excursions except the horsebacking riding that was included...but some people we met did the ATV tour and they said it was great!
