My poor father's eye awakening experience at what it's like to be house hunting on LI

We saw these 3 houses today.

This one is completely original- and needs easily 100k in work there was water in the basement- major water damage that you can some what see in the in picture of the living room where the air conditioner is and the whole house reaked of gas- the agent said the pilot light is out. The walls had some pictures removed and you could totally see the outline of where it was. The house has not been painted in many decades.

My father was SHOCKED that they could put a house on the market like this. I said welcome to the housing market on LI

We then went to this house. The floors are nicely redone- the rooms are so small and the walls are in horrible shape Again he was in complete shock. He said that he thought the guy that lived there was a painter but obviously not. The tiles would all need to be redone. It truly is amazing how good they can make things look in pictures. The basment had mold growing in the carpets and the ceiling. You could see that it was not a dry basement.

Lastly we went to see this house today This house was STUNNING, beautifully restored but no property just the huge garage I am still in the shock over the price. If I was paying 900k I would think my backyard would be big enough that I would actually need a lawnmower to cut it, not a pair of scissors. But the owners have done an AMAZING job restoring the house!

My poor father was like I think I am staying in my little house. He couldn't believe that there are actually houses that look that bad that people put them on the market like that without even a coat of paint. I said Chat Icon Dad welcome to the real world

Your poor father!

My parents bought a house in Fort Salonga that was in "move in" condition about a year and a half ago. And they paid quite a bit of money for it.

They've since put about $25,000 into it for repairs.

Ridiculous!

Just a comment about that first house...you have to wonder about it when they show as many photos of the outside as the inside of the house. And what was the purpose of the side view of the outside of the house? to show the overgrown bush or the siding that fell off? Chat Icon Chat Icon

We have been looking and some of the basements out there are pretty bad. If I can see it or smell it and they are showing it like that, I always suspect it will be worse than it appears.
