Have you ever seen a passion play in person?

Where? When? and if so, how was it? And how invovled and 'real" was it in terms of crucifixion and whipping, etc.

I'm reading about Oberammergau and I'm truly fascinated, and I heard a church in hempstead actually does a really realistic passion play.

I haven't, but since you are a theater person, I would recommend you see Jesus of Montreal if you have never watched it. It is about a theater group who is doing a passion play during the Easter season and I think you would really like it. It is in french with english subtitles.

I have seen it in some churches. However, I think the best /most realistic version (although not a play) is Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The Christ". I know the film is controversial, that aside the crucifixion scene and the beating scene seemed very real to me.

I was in a Passion Play for a few summers in the Smokey Mountains. I have to say we did a pretty realistic depiction. Unfortunately, the show is no longer being performed.

I saw one put on by my church and it was not realistic at all. It was very watered down.

I haven't but my Mother did while she was in Oberammergau. She said it was an amazing, very realistic, experience.
