Question for Low-Carbers....

I started Atkins on Jan 3. Really did not cheat at all - pretty strict. No alcohol, no carbs, nothing. As we've all experienced, the weight starts coming off and then plateaus. I will also say that many nights, I KNOW I don't eat enough - I'm so tired at night and also not as interested in food because it's always the same thing.

So anyway, this weekend cause of the snowstormChat Icon I went off my diet and pretty much ate what I wanted - and a LOT of it!! I get on the scale on Tuesday and a two pound weight loss, which hasn't happened in WEEKS. Last night I was at work really late and someone ordered pizza and I had a slice (only one) cause I was starving - this morning - another pound down.

What do you think? Do I have to "cheat" once in a while to keep the metabolism going? I'm telling you - it was the first time I saw a loss in weeks and I ate A LOT this weekend!!

I'm just scared of getting too used to eating carbs again - I need to be really structured!!

If you're still reading this long azz post - thanks and I would appreciate your thoughts!

I don;t know what it has to w/ metabolisim, but I think you have to allow yourself to cheat. I can go weeks w/ being very good, but then I 'm bad for a like a whole week. I think you have to allow yourself some down time, but as long as you go back to your diet then you will be ok. IMO Good luck! Chat Icon

Re: Question for Low-Carbers....

I really don't know either. I think since you plateaued, your body needed a shock in its system to continue losing weight. That being said, I think you should go back to dieting as usual, and then a couple of weeks down the road, do the exact same thing (eat junK).
I don't know.

But congrats on losing weight.!!! I'm starting my diet tomorrow.

Congrats!!!

Once in a while your body needs a jumpstart! But, be careful of going overboard, its easy to slip and not go back on... Chat Icon

You need to designate a day every so often (maybe every 2 weeks?), or whatever you feel comfortable with, to be your cheat day. You'll be able to see how your body handles it and judge how often is good for you. It will give you something to look forward to...

Now, if I can only listen to my own advice

Re: Question for Low-Carbers....

I am proof of this too. I don't diet, but i watch fat/calories all the time. When I have a bad weekend away or just eat out a lot...i lose a little.

For me, some have said I am not getting enough fat in my diet...for you it could be carbs...so when I get over 15grams my body gobbles it up.

Who knows...but I do think if you eat generally healthy most of the time...with a small indulgence once in a while you should be fine.

I think it's true- if you are always on a strict diet- then your body gets use to it- then it you cheat- your body has to work harder

it works for me
