Re: Question for Middle School Teachers...

I teach 7th grade math and prior to the NYS Assessment in March - I gave HW 3-4 nights a week. Now with the test over, and the work becoming more project-oriented, maybe 2-3 nights a week.

Hope that helps!!

yep, sure does.

Danielle has homework about 3 times a week, *sometimes* 4....and now with exams coming up, she's getting more 'study' h.w. She's made first honors (91 avg) 2 semesters in a row....I just wanted to make sure the h.w. she gets is the average. thanks! Chat Icon

no problem!!

If you don't mind me asking - are you concerned that her HW is so generic - just to "study"? Personally, I can't really trust my 7th graders to just "study" without giving them some kind of structure, so even for final exam review I have to give them specific questions.

not concerned that her HW is generic,...she gets a pretty good variety of hw in different subjects...ie, math problems, essays, ss assignments, etc...i just found it a little odd that she didn't get hw twice this week...but once you posted, i see thats the average...
also, in addition to her hw assignments, she has study sheets that she goes over when exams are going to be given...
for ex, I was just quizzing her on social studies for an upcoming exam on tuesday....
(she didn't get hw today, which is what prompted me to post this thread...)

Re: Question for Middle School Teachers...

My homework policy is written homework should not take more than 10 minutes and then they are to spend 10-15 minutes studying their vocabulary. I only given written homework Monday- Thursday. I ask that they review their vocabulary at some point over the weekend. IMO weekends are family time and I know so many of my kids have PACKED schedules.

But I know from my experience Christine is varies greatly from teacher to teacher and from subject to subject. I know certain teachers in my school give their kids an hour of homework a night, forgetting that these kids have 9 other teachers asking them to do homework too!

Hope that helps.

Re: Question for Middle School Teachers...

in 8th grade english, i assign about 20-30 minutes of homework per night Monday - Thursday. But, the majority of that homework is outside reading and doesn't have to be done each and every night.

Thanks for your responses.....Chat Icon

I agree with you there Jamie...I am certainly very grateful Danielle doesn't come home with 4 or 5 hours worth of homework!! Chat Icon THAT would be a ridiculous imo!!

and Lori, she LOVES LOVES LOVES to read, so any homework assignment that involves reading is heaven to her!! Chat Icon
