Nap time question

It dawned on me this morning that I think I am going about nap time all wrong. When he was a newborn he would sleep anywhere but soon stopped when he was a month old. So my question is how do you get your child to nap. Do you rock them, just lay them in their crib or pack & play? I can't believe me it took me this long to figure out he might need some assistance in that deptartment.

I wait for the signs...rubbing eyes, yawns, moans and I lay her in her crib. She's usually asleep in a few minutes of her aquarium playing. This is almost always after a nice full belly of food Chat Icon

My child never naps....never.
Sometimes in the car, but as soon as we stop moving...HE IS UP.

Only another 18 years until I can kick him out. It should go by quickly.

Re: Nap time question

What are naps? DD barely naps, cat naps IF we are lucky and they are usually when I am carrying her in the sling, in a car ride or straight after eating...

Re: Nap time question

I am trying to get his first nap in his crib, so I rock him to sleep and then put him down. Other naps during the day I rock him in his stroller (it has a bassinet top), with him on his side with his pacifier. If I am out, he sleeps in his carseat/infant carrier.

He does not fall asleep on his own. If I put him down, he'll fuss a bit, and then scream until I pick him up.

Re: Nap time question

she used to only nap in the swing or in our bed next to me.

Then one day I put her in the crib and she slept! She falls asleep after her bottles still.

Dr Weissbluth recommends starting sleep training with naps and then the overnights....

it recommends lettingthem cry for 1 hour and if they don't fall asleep then get them and try again later. It gives you a 2 hr window of waketime and then your child should be tired within that 2 hr timeframe.

DD actually doesn't last more than 1 1/2 hrs in the morning....sometimes only 1 hr!!!

DD doesn't usually need help, but when she does I rock her or sway with her or stroll her. I can usually tell that she is tired when she is cranky for no reason or rubbing her eyes.

He did take a nap today for 2 hours Chat Icon . He doesnt have any problems at night, he sleeps between 10 and 12 hours a night so I am pretty lucky with that. I guess I will continue what I am doing which his letting him play in the bouncy and then he falls asleep.
