wedding gift spin off
How much do you give for a wedding gift when you can not go to the wedding?

Re: wedding gift spin off
depends who it is.
We've gotten a lot cheaper since our own wedding. I had a bunch of cousins not attend and not send anything either. It irked me because I had been overgenerous for them AND even sent them gifts for showers that I didn't attend.
So, I guess it depends who it is. For the people who sent us gifts, but didn't attend, I'd send back the same thing.
For CLOSE family and friends, if I couldn't go, I'd send between $100 and $200.

This is what I usually do. there have been a few times that I haven't sent a gift - when it was someone I barely knew (like a work colleague) and felt like it was an obligatory invitation. I would always send a gift for family or close friends.

Re: wedding gift spin off
I think I'd prefer to send a physical gift rather than money if I could not attend.
Giving money as a gift is really a northern thing, down here in the south, you get oodles of actual gifts.
We plan on doing this since it can be a heck of a lot cheaper if you get an item on sale and plus I like knowing it's something the couple needs (off the registry)
