Re: Paint Brand

This is going to be one of those threads where you get everyones opinions.

So I will go first.
I have used Olympia from Lowes and it isnt bad. I have used Glidden and it doesnt really cover that well. I have used Benjammin Moore and I think it is over priced, but it did a decent job of covering the wall, and I used BEHR. I love BEHR. We painted our house with Behr and it did a great job. Also the cost of the paint is lower

Totally agree! BEHR all the way! I love to paint and for me BEHR gives the best coverage...and I love the colors.

Yep, you'll get lots of opinions. Chat Icon I hate Behr, it did not cover evenly, was very thick, etc. And the color pallette is not very big, if you ask me.

I've use Benjamin Moore and was happy.

My favorite in terms of color selection and paint properties is hands down Lowe's brand American Tradition (Valspar). I've done 2 rooms with this paint and love it!

Re: Paint Brand

Ive painted a lot and many many colors and the best one to take onto the wall without having to use a primer AND not have to do like 5 coats to get the color you want- go with Benjamin Moore- you get what you pay for, yes its expensive about 10 a can more but totally worth it. If you are getting plain colors like white then I would go with Behr but as far as thier colors- forget it - for a deep red I had to paint like 5 coats, t he wall kept absorbing it, terrible. I went and bought a different color dark blue benjamin moore- no primer, 123 covered it in 2 coats. and its the same color as the paint not a purple tone.

Re: Paint Brand

I used many different types, but Behr was my favorite.

We were going to try BM but they didn't have the color we wanted.

Re: Paint Brand

Today we took down blinds in the DR. We had the room painted 3 years ago with Benjamin Moore. Well, when we took the blinds down today we saw they didn't paint in that area. DH got out the 3 year old paint - and guess what? No seperation, no clumping, nothing - after 3 years the left-over paint was still in great shape. We painted the few patches and you can't even tell where we painted. So I would have to say....Benj. Moore! I had always heard it was the best and now I believe it!

Re: Paint Brand

Another B. Moore lover here. We painted our apartment in Brooklyn using Martha Stewart paint from Kmart and the color faded after a couple of years. We used BM in our house and while we haven't been here long enough to say about color fading, the application was very smooth.

Plus, BM has little pots of samples in a lot of their popular colors, and that was a great way to try many colors before making a decision.

Re: Paint Brand

We've painted in two apts and our house and by now we've used Behr, Glidden and Benjamin Moore. I think they're all fine. I didn't notice such a spectacular difference b/w them. There does seem to be less spatter with BM, which is nice. But Behr did the job just fine in the apts. The other thing I will say for BM is that their color chips tend to actually represent the color of the paint consistently, which is not always the case with the other brands. I really tend to choose based on color selection. Sometimes I can't get the color I want in Behr and other times I can't find it in BM. I think the end result depends more on the techinique than the paint. You will get a better result if you prime and if you use the proper number of coats and better brushes and rollers. That makes a big difference. The only paint we ever tried that we hated was Ralph Lauren. It is a totally different system based on tinting and the color was hideous and the coverage was awful too. Nightmare!

Holy cow! I might!

Thanks everyone - wow there are so many options! I guess different paint also covers different walls (based on how old they are too, etc. But then again what do I know!? Chat Icon) Thanks!!!

Re: Paint Brand

We like Benjamin Moore a lot. I never really thought about it before, but when we moved into our house, we heard people saying how great it was so we tried it. We had a kitchen that was a deep mauveish/ burgendy color and we were painting it over a light blue. So, we decided to prime it - we used a Glidden primer and after two coats, it still didn't cover. There was an area not primed yet and when I used the BM blue, it almost completely covered it in one coat. So, after that, I was hooked.
I also asked my cousin who is a contractor, and he said BM is totally worth it.

That being said, my beft friend painted her walls with Behr, and said they liked it. so, who really knows.Chat Icon Chat Icon
