Suffolk County Teachers that have no school today . . .
This is SO ridiculous. I did hear that the roads are terrible and I also heard that the snow is taking a break and coming again through until about 1:00 this afternoon. So maybe the schools were closed due to the icy road conditions and because they felt to have the kids come in and risk not having everything safe in time for them to go home would be a risk. But I find it so funny that the other day every stinkin' school had a delay and we did not and now we are closed over nothing it seems.
And the main reason I am venting this is because we do not get school days as per our contract so now we will have a day taken off of memorial day weekend for a closing that seems to be pointless- and will llse more days if the school needs to close for more legitimate reasons.
Thanks for letting me vent!

IMO closing the schools there is silly.

I have to say i agree....
Is it true that once SD's are closed a certain amount of days for snow they have to make them up at the end of the year?

same with us, we dont get those days in Memorial day unless we DONT use a snow day, then they give us those days.
I would MUCH rather be off in May then now.

I'm in Maine and it didn't start snowing until 6 am and they called all of our schools off!!! Unbelievable!!! Not only that the kids had an early release day schedualed and would be out at 1!!! This is nuts!! It wasn't even snowing and all the posts were up by 5 am. Crazy!!

I'm just annoyed because I really did have so much to do today at work. My kids have a concert in less than two weeks, adn this snow day ruined one of their very few days that they can have a rehearsal. And it's freaking raining out. RAINING. Why am I home?
I'm just annoyed because now, the next time the roads are really bad, my headmaster will have this situation in his head and make us all drive in unsafe conditions.

I know the answer! MIL works in the admin offices.
When they called school (around 6am), it was still snowing and hadn't changed to rain yet. Our home district called it because they thought the snow would continue throughout the morning before changing to rain.

I can understand that in the districts where there WAS snow, but the district I work in had NO snow! So strange. Watch, next month, I'll be trekking to work in like 2 feet of snow and my boss will be telling me it's not bad out.
