Spinoff to Jewish moms to be not having showers
So you guys don't get anything at all before the baby comes? Or do you order stuff like the crib ahead of time and have it delivered while you are at the hosptial? What about stuff like the car seat, clothes, etc? I'm so anal and do everything so far in advance, I don't know if I could wait that long.

Sure we get stuff before the baby was born, the bare essentials.... the carseat, diapers, stuff like that but it was not brought into our house until the baby was born.
We had painted and carpeted Jacob's room but the furniture was delivered after he was born which really did not make a difference since he was in the bassinet at first.
Regarding clothes-- I bought plenty before the baby was born but it stayed at my Mom's house. We had all the layette stuff there.
This wasn't a big deal at all, just the Jewish tradition and I like it that way...
we ended up getting everything off the registry for his bris and for just being born....

We also painted and carpeted Talia's room - but not until about a month before she was born. We got the furniture right before she was born but didn't put it in her room until I was in the hospital.
Anything I bought for the baby stayed at my moms house (except for a package of diapers and wipes, and a few outfits I washed ahead of time.)
We also didn't use her name until after she was born - not to eachother or her..and we didn't tell anyone else her name until she was born either (not even our parents!)

I see, thanks! I thought maybe you had people run out and do the shopping while you were at the hospital or something.

I was one who had people go out while I was in the hospital. The only thing I did in the babies room was have the walls painted and the carpet put down. I did not feel comfortable buying or bringing anything into the house. As crazy as this sounds, I rented a storage unit to keep the gifts that people got us. If you really think about it, there is not much that is needed when they first come home.
I went to do a layette and walked out of the store because I fely funny picking things out before the baby was born.
I got the car seat the day before he was born and went to the police station to have it installed and it was so strange to drive around with it in the car.
