If you throw a shower for someone...

what do you get them for a gift?
I am chipping in with my mom and my sisters MIL for her baby shower and it is costing me over $1K, I got her a few baby outfits but I don't know if I should buy something elseChat Icon I am the godmother also. Is there a thoughtful but inexpensive gift I could get?

Re: If you throw a shower for someone...

when is she due? if she's due in the middle of a month, i'd get her a piece of jewelry with the baby's birthstone in it.

BUt that won't work if she's due like Oct 30th or something - she could go in Oct OR November!

Re: If you throw a shower for someone...

i was in the same situation. I got a box and wrapped it up in christmas paper. inside a things remembered engraved ornament, baby's first christmas pjs, stocking with baby's name on it. It was a Oct. shower, SIL was happy, since it was a Dec baby, she said she would never have left the house to get everything.

Re: If you throw a shower for someone...

Those are good ideas!
She is Due Nov 15th so I am pretty sure she will be born in November. I guess if I did a brithstone I would wait until November incase she delivers early. The shower is in the beginning of October. That is a good idea to get the Xmas stuff. Perfect timing!

Since baby shower gifts are usually always for the baby - it might be a nice idea to get your sister something for being the new mom to be.

Maybe a robe, warm slippers, take her out for a mani/ped, bath and body products, alittle something that she can enjoy.

I may be the only one who thinks this, but I already feel like you are spending a ton here. I think that gesture is enough for now.

I think as the babies godmother you have been so generous thus far!!! If you are looking to do a little something extra - I do like the two ideas that were mentioned:

The necklace with the babies birthstone

or

The mani/pedi gift certificate. She's going to love any pampering she can get after Nov!

I agree however i did the same thing with my sister. i spent a lot of $$ on the shower itself but wanted to get her some gifts too, especially since I am the godmother also.

julie- i made my sister a pregnancy bag for her and she loved it.. I put in slippers, compfy pajamas, hairclips, lotion, a mani/pedi gift certificate...

Wow, this is old! I even went to find a link to my suggestion and then when I went to post got the warning about how old it is. Chat Icon

Anyhow, if anyone is looking for a suggestion, I love these First Year Frames from Pottery Barn Kids I have one in each kid's room.

I debated posting this because I dont' want to lessen the thought of your gift.

I wouldn't suggest the star. It's actually not "officially" named for a baby - unless you count some random office offically calling a random star your baby's name.
