That sounds pretty selfish to me. I wouldn't care much about the name of the network- but to chose a password that is meaningless to you- that is wrong.

If I couldn't get on my computer because DH picked a password that was meaningless to me and I couldn't remember- I would be pizzed! I would be a little upset that he picked a password that is meaningless to me- it just seems selfish. Why can't he come up with something that we can both remember?

The name of the network doesn't bother me at all.

why do you need a password to use a secured wireless network? if you enter the encyription (sp) once and use the same wireless device to connect, it will remember your settings thus you never need to worry about network/code to enter unless you are using another computer you want to add

I agree with the Captain.

Frankly when you set up a wireless password... you enter it once on the laptop. It caches the information and you never have to enter it again on that laptop.

Also... depending on what type of security he used... you may be limited to what types of numbers or letters you are allowed to use. So for instance.... the password "Tinkerbell" can probably not be used. But 7185347542 could be.

on our laptop, DH set it up so that we each have our own settings and our own passwords....would that be possible?

So he could have used their phone number or his birthday or something.

But I guess you are right about using the password. I thought about it and I only use a password for my computer at work. DH and I have wireless connection and I have never had to use a password.

I guess if it was a pattern of selfish behavior- I would be ******. If it was a one time thing- its no big deal.

ETA: We store our passwords so its never an issue.

Maybe since he is the one that will most likely have to fix it if something goes wrong.. he wants a password that he could remember.

Like I said... you will NEVER have to enter that password. Its an encryption password for administration purposes.

And the network/SSID name shouldn't be an issue anyways. If you really want to be secure... you shouldn't be publically broadcasting your SSID anyways. So having a "cool name" would be a moot point.

The password in question is not for the PC itself. Its an administration password that should only be used by the person thats responsible for setting up and fixing the equipment.

We aren't talking a password you have to enter to press CTRLALTDEL to login. This is an encryption key that an end user would never have to enter herself.

Even though it is possible... I wouldn't be surprised if Lolita didn't even know where on this laptop this encryption key gets entered. Chat Icon So knowing the password would be useless anyways. Chat Icon
