Am I Crazy? (Travel Question) UPDATE...

DH has to go to LA for business in early Sept.
He will be staying in Santa Monica, right by the beach, Santa Monica Pier, all that good stuff.
So he suggested I come & bring Alex...What do you think? Should I go???
I'd love to go, but what stinks is he will be working like 9-5, so we'll only see him at night.Chat Icon
I can certainly handle her on my own, I'm used to him working all the time, but I'm wondering if it's worth it?
My CA friend tells me I shouldn't pass up this oppurtunity b/c Santa Monica is really beautiful & everything is in walking distance, I guess I'm just nervous b/c I've never travelled w/ Alex before, and this will be a 6 hour flight, worried about how the time difference will affect her, etc...
She will be 8 months in Sept.
What should I do????Chat Icon
TIA...Chat Icon

UPDATE: Just found out today that DH's boss wants him to leave NEXT WEEK for this trip instead of September!Chat Icon
I have a tentative spa party booked, and it just su(cks in general to plan a trip on such short notice, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do now, I'm so bummed.

Re: Am I Crazy? (Travel Question)

GO! Traveling with an infant is easier than you think. We went to colorado with Talia when she was 4 months, The bahamas when she was 7 months - Florida at 9 months (And going again at 11 months) and we are planning a trip to Israel at 13 months. I think it is great to get the kids used to it and I bet she enjoys it too!

Go-

We did a 15hr. trip when Ryan was 5 months... ( we drove)

He mostly slept- but we left @ night...

I would be all over just me and my baby at the beach-

I def. think Alex is old enough to handle it...

I just have all these stupid travel worries like...
-Where is she supposed to sleep in the hotel room?
I can't bring the Pack n Play on the plane!
-How do I heat up her bottles/food in the room, most rooms don't have microwaves, right?
What do you girls do???

you can check your pack and play on the plane just like luggage - although most hotels have a crib you can use (I prefer the pack n plays)

Ok...stop heating her bottles now to get her used to it room temp. (Which will make your life WAY easier) and buy bottled water when you get there to make bottles with Powdered formula (or if you use RTF buy the cans)
Or you can always run them under hot water at the hotel.

ETA: I always pack dishwashing soap to wash the bottles with in the room - but you can also buy sterilization microwave bags and have them nuke em for you if you want them SUPER DUPER clean.

I would definitely go. We had a 2 hours time difference when we went to FL and Miranda actually did well. It sounds like it would be a fun trip.

The hotels we've stayed in actually had pack n plays and we just brought our own sheets (the crib sheets fit fine). You can call ahead and ask.

I never warm Miranda's bottles or food so that wasn't an issue she pretty much takes everything at room temperature. You can usually ask for a fridge in your room and possibly if you can stay in a suite like hotel you might be able to get a kitchenette in the room

Buy the disposable bowls and spoons and bibs and ziplocks and just pack meals and accessories and toss it all when you're done

Oh Geez, now I HAVE to go!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I do give her room temp bottles, but I have the nasty habit of warming her last bottle before bed to help the "knocking her out" process.Chat Icon
I guess I can run it under hot water-easy enough.
I will call the hotel about the pack n plays, I'd rather not take ours, we will be schlepping enough crap!Chat Icon
Thank you guys for the tips, I'm sure I'll be bothering you for more silly stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!Chat Icon
..and Yes Noreen, you can come!

Also I would suggest getting a taxi or something when you get there to the grocery store to buy food, formula, diapers, wipes etc. Thats what we did in FL. Let crap to pack and it gets used up so you don't have to lug it home.
