help me please!!! Oil burner question
our heat is not working upstairs and we dont know what to do..we dont have a service contract with anyone..We just got our oil tank filled up last month. How do I go about getting a service contract for free? I know that you can through some companies... Does anyone know who offers one? What questions do I need to ask?
Thank you so much... we have my BIl & SIL and their 5 month old baby staying up there..the poor baby must be freezing..thank god its not really that cold out but at nite it gets chilly.. I can hear her crying right now
any info you have would be greatly appreciated..i need to get this taken care of asap

Re: help me please!!! Oil burner question
I'm not sure I understand...
I thought you pay for a service contract and it covers certain items and maintenance on your heating system? If its free, why would you need a contract?
If you mean that you'd rather not sign on with anyone, then I would first call the Co. that delivers your oil, many maintain the systems as well. Or call another Oil burner Co. (even some plumbers) to come by, and assess the problem as a one shot deal.
Where are you located? My mom always used Bob Scheblien, (sp?) plumber -I could swear he fixed our oil and gas systems.

Re: help me please!!! Oil burner question
Hi there. Sorry you are having trouble. Did you just get a drop with an oil company and no contract? you can do one of a few things.
1) you can find out (look on the burner or perhaps if you know offhand) what the company was that the former owner had. Call up the company b/c the burner may still be covered under the service contract and have them come out to inspect it. Play stupid (I know some may think this is dishonest, but whatever), and make it out as though the former owner told you that you could pick up their service.
2) you can call up an oil company and sign up with them. But do not tell them that you have a problem with the burner (they may not come out to you until you rectify the problem. I'm not sure how much oil you have left in your tank, but alot of oil companies require you to have a certain # of gallons in your tank for them to fill.
3) have you tried to reset your boiler? or hot water heater? I would try that. Check the pilot.
4) you can have a handyman come to the house and check it out
If none of this makes sense to you, feel free to FM me and I will clarify.
I wish you luck!

Re: help me please!!! Oil burner question
do you have your oil delivered by an "oil only" company? i know several people that do this for a reduced oil rate. the problem occurs when the burner is not working (in your case) and you have no one to service it. if you are getting your oil from a full service company, i would call and inquire about service contracts. if not, i would drop who you are using now and sign up w/ a full service company.
you can have your burner serviced w/o a signing a contract but the prices are going to be $$$.
