Heavy Appetizers ... although if you arew unsure and need to eat before hand I'd stop for a slice of pizza before hand to be sure

yeah I wouldnt plan on having dinner there but probably apps and drinks.

I could probably just call her, but I don't know if that's tacky either. We are not super-super close.
I guess it wouldn't matter either way. Just wondering what others might expect in this situation.

I agree. I would assume there would be appetizers, but I never assume there will be dinner unless its a dinner party.

I do this to family all the time  but I agree, if you don't know her well, it might be taken the wrong way.
I would agree with others - appetizers and desserts. When in doubt, I always eat a little something before I go, especially if I plan to drink.
