Foodies - Need Your Help (Manhattan Restaurant)

Can you recommend which of the Manhattan restaurants you like best? You know, the big ones? We've been to a bunch and I'm trying to decide which one DH and I should go to for our birthdays next Friday (mine is Fri, his is Sun). I was thinking Mesa or Bolo but I've heard the hype is better than the food there. We LOVED Caviar and Banana but I don't want to go back there again. The only thing I don't eat is sushi (which kills DH because he loves it). And I know it's probably too late to get a reservation at Asia de Cuba (I always think about this too late). Not big on Brassirie, been there, didn't love it.

Anyway, if anyone has a recommendation, please let me know.

Thanks!

ETA: I just realized I can get reservations at 21 Club - is it as good as it's supposed to be?

If you really want to be splurge-y- maybe The Four Seasons? DH took me there for my birthday last year, and it was amazing. Not just the food, the whole experience. The Pool Room is gorgeous, the food was beyond anything I've ever had and the service was excellent.

It was so much fun to get all dressed up like that and just have an out-of-the ordinary experience.

I love Gotham Bar and Grill. The dinner was otu of this world= and the somolier picked out the most amazing wine. We tried to buy it, but they don't sell it in NY. We were going to order a case from the vinyard- but now I'm not drinking so we thought it would be a waste.

I have been to the 4 seasons adn although the atmosphere there is more romantic- the food at Gotham was amazing!

I have a few that I love:

One if by land, two if by sea
Le Bernadin (If you like sea food)
La Caravelle

Are my favorite romantic restaurants...

A little less romantic but good food/atmosphere...

Eleven Madison Park
Four Seasons
Aureole

I've eaten @ Bolo a few times- didn't think it was so fantastic- more of a lunch place.

I had lunch @ Tavern on the Green- and while the food didn't knock my culinary socks off (really it's hard to do that b/c I'm a major food lover)- it was v. good and the setting is just beautiful.

I just ate at Nobu- and even though a lot of it was sushi- you pretty much share appetizers and most of it is cooked- it was SICKLY GOOD (went for my 30th bday)...

I love Beppe- it's an italian restaurant on 22nd st- VERY good.

Another MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR restaurant- is Daniel (owned by Daniel Boulud).. That is SUPER fancy and SUPER expensive...

For the shee shee factory- try Spice Market in Meatpacking- just recently had lunch there and it was majorly delish- very well done. Afterwards you can grab drinks at Pastis and see who's there.

For steaks- BLT Prime and Dylan's Prime are supposed to be very good.
